Where is the subwoofer located? Or is there one at all? Can't believe I'm saying this but the only step down from my previous vehicle is the audio quality. Will I have to go aftermarket to address the lack of punchy bass?

Edit - I have an X4MC not a 3

Aren’t they in the same place as the X3? Under the front seats.

Agree. Hard to get hard hitting bass with shallow mount 8” subs. I’m going with one of these and the wiring to pull the sub leads from the harness

Dude, this is awesome & had no idea Cerwin-Vega was still around. I have a set of CLS-215's in my bedroom & love them.

I just converted my space saver rear tire cargo area to the M-mobility kit. So I'm wondering if I could still make this product fit.

Let us know how it fits. I have been looking at this or just having custom ones built that won't take up cargo space...

Here is the needed harness for the HK system to avoid cutting any wires. They also offer harnesses for the HiFi system.

It will likely be a while before I get to this but will post when I complete the install.

I would hardly call those speakers sub woofers, they are more like mid-range woofers and sadly do not produce much bass at all.

Depending on how much bass you want, the Bavsound ghost subs are an improvement but will not get you to mirror blurring bass. For that, you need a dedicated sub and amp, check out my thread on my install.

If you want something custom (and do not have the spare tire) there are several threads on the G01/02 forum where people did custom enclosures in the cargo space under where the rear tire would have been. Saw a really nice fiberglass one a member had installed. Check that forum as it is the same dimensions for ours (but by default the HK system is on the X3M...for MY20 anyway).

I did the Bavsound ghost subs in my former X3 M40i and IMO it was a waste of money.
- Starting in 22 BMW changed the adhesive that secures the subs to the enclosure. This stuff is no joke! It took me hours to get the OEM subs out and I used a heat gun, razor, screwdrivers and anything I could think of. Destroyed both OEM subs trying to get them out. They make it seem like a couple blows with a screwdriver and hammer will pop the OEM sub out. It will not in a 22.
- I expected a noticeable improvement. Slightly better mid bass but basically no bass below 40-50 hz. Just look at the frequency graph they have on their site.
-They have an amazing ad campaign. People saying how the difference was so incredible. I suspect either they have never heard decent bass in a car, cannot hear low frequencies or are simply not being honest.
-They only put up good reviews on their web site. I was critical of the subs in my review and guess what? My review never made their site.
- I had ordered the entire kit to replace all the speakers but before I installed I sold the M40i for an X3 MC and returned the kit with all the replacement drivers. I will say their customer service was excellent. They took the kit back with no questions asked. Unfortunately the OEM subs were destroyed so I did not remove the ghost subs prior to trading the M40i in.

IMO no 8” shallow mount subs are going to provide the “punch” I’m looking for. If you want bass the hits hard you have to go to an external 12” sub. Perhaps my expectations were too high but given the reviews and the testimonials I thought I was making a slam-dunk decision. Instead I spent 600 for a slight improvement.

Obviously this is just my opinion based on my experience so your mileage may vary.

On my 2020 the glue was extremely difficult as well. I am not willing to say there is no improvement with Bavsound, but it is not huge. They do sound better than the HKs.

Interestingly, I have heard other people who used them in other BMWs claiming they sounded awesome only to say there was minimal improvement in the X3M. Perhaps the vehicle has something to do with it?

I also agree they have great customer service but to be honest the product is not worth what they are charging. I did all the speakers (I think more than $1k) and it did sound better, but not for the cost.

A few people went with Focal and have said it sounds much better. The real improvement would be to do another brand of speakers with an aftermarket amp.

However, a large sub (I have a JL Audio 10" W7 in a bandpass box which destroys most 12"s) is the ticket. Really got me to my happy place.
