Yellow fluid on left hand corner of the bonnet
Hi All,
Not sure what this yellow fluid is.. But it's coming from the left hand side of the bonnet next to the left headlight. Should I worry about it? Last edited by knali8; 04-13-2022 at 07:51 PM.. |

Looks like blinker fluid, have you check the blinker seals?

blinker? wtf is a blinker?
yea if the gaskets are loose (which looks to be the problem in the pictures you provided) all the light will start to slowly leak out. you want to seal it so nothing gets in or out and your indicator light works at its peak optimal brightness.

Jokes aside, this does not look like cosmoline from my experience with it though times could have changed (it was a hard translucent satin material and PITA to wash off - we had a special wash chemical to remove it and I always missed a spot).
Rather it looks like the BMW rust proofing which has a greasy consistency. Similar to a lanolin-based undercoating. I ran into a lot of this when sound deadening my trunk for my subwoofer. It wipes off easy with denatured alcohol which cosmoline (at least my experience) would not. It is meant to inhibit corrosion. That is, unless something similar in color is leaking. |

It is cosmoline or something similar and they put it on for shipping due to the salt air is what I have heard, typically leaks out of cracks sometimes for months or even years especially when it is hot out as it becomes more of a liquid in the heat.

As far as applying sloppy that's not bad. On my E46 M3 they sprayed it on the exhaust and it dripped on my newly (at the time) paved driveway and made a mess that never went away. I was very annoyed about that. If you see how it is typically applied it is not a science - though they typically would avoid the exhaust because it will melt and drip. I actually am very glad they use this stuff as it will keep parts from rusting. If it bothers you, just take a microfiber cloth and some denatured alcohol (available in the paint isle at HD/Lowes) and it will wipe right off. Probably a degreaser would work as well. Personally I would leave it be. |

as above, rust-proofing grease. I have it on mine and also under the doors / drain holes. 3series was the same.
I thought only the Euro models had the genuine blinker fluid |
