You got the general idea. Since we have the hatch latch built into the emblem I didn't know if the procedure would be different. Looks pretty straight forward.
The whole latch assembly can also be removed if needed, I can get that info if you need it. I don't think you need to remove the whole thing. |

I've replaced mine (after painting it) and it's WAY more involved than the normal process for other roundels. Guess it's the price we pay for having the cool switch built into the roundel. The tape and trim tools will NOT work for this, sorry... You need to remove the large plastic trim piece on the inside of the hatch lid and it's a process, but not bad if you take your time. There are a few screws and several clips... After removing this, you will see the panel that holds the roundel and you will need to remove a couple of bolts that hold it in place, no tape is involved. From there it's pretty straight forward to replace and put back together. It's probably a 2 hour job, but well worth it. PROBABLY A GOOD IDEA FOR 2kaccordocoupe TO GET THE INFO FROM TIS. Hope this helps, John

Yeah, maybe the trim tool required isn't for the badges but the interior trim?? I'll follow up. But seems like I'm sorted. I may buy some extra clips lol.

One requires removing the interior trim on the hatch, the other is a simple pry job...

Yeah, that's what I did on mine too, unfortunately that's the bigger of the two jobs.
It's really not bad, just take your time and you will be fine. I didn't break any clips, or have any parts left over Gonna look really cool on your black X4M!!

Had no idea the X4 had a different truck roundel from the X3.

I know I probably won't use the vast majority of this stuff but having access to all the repair manuals and technical documents would be so awesome, if not just to quench my curiosity.

So if I am understanding this correctly, on the competition models the trim piece around the roundel is already blacked out so all that would be needed is to replace the actual roundel itself which is just a pry job correct?

I'm almost positive I'm gonna have to take the hatch apart to get access as per posts above. Comps are never supposed to have chrome, though I did find chrome on 2022 comps when I was shopping around oddly enough lol.

Got to swapping this couple weekends ago. Confirm you need to take trims apart in the back. It's actually not bad at all.
