Changing the side vents on the front fenders - thoughts & opinions!

I've been thinking about changing the big M-specific side vents to the much simpler design of the regular gloss black m40i oem units. What do you guys think & have you ever seen an X3 / X4 M owner with this different style. Hope to see some more photo examples before I test fit a new set...

Since the LCI X3M40i's exterior is now very similar to the F97 you can get a pretty good idea of how it might look. I'm not a huge fan of fake vents, so the less visible they are the better IMO, but a number like the F97's design so just depends on what you prefer.

Four years ago I started a poll on the G01 Forum as to whether it would look better without any plastic there (when it appeared BMW was plugging the 'breather' even though the X5 had functional vents at the time). https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1455787 Given the similar body styles it didn't make much sense why the X5 needed them but not the X3, but wind tunnel and CFD trials must've shown real vents as detrimental.

sor suggested they might serve a functional role in that area for airflow, and if so, I'd leave as is, but we'll never know those details. If you do change it, no doubt it would make it even more of a 'sleeper'!

I've seen people do the other way around - they own an M40i, and put the X3M vents on. So it must fit seamlessly.

To be honest, I would leave it alone... I think the bigger fender vents on the X3M are part of what makes it a step up aesthetically from a base model.

But it's your car, you do you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
