I've used it behind a snow plow in the mountains in the winter...but somehow I get the feeling that's not what you mean. Are you asking if anyone has mounted and used a plow blade on their X3?

a plow is too heavy and greatly exceeds the front end specs.

Agreed. You need more like F150 / Silverado kind of chassis for a plow. Even then you'd be wise to buy an old one that you care less when things begin to fall apart.

I have seen some light duty plows that claim they can hook up to the X3 for clearing your driveway but not for commercial/heavy duty work. I was just curious if anyone here had tried it or not.
If my wife and I get a new house with a long driveway, I do plan on using it as an excuse to pick up something for winter plowing...maybe an ATV with plow attachment...

If you'll need a riding mower for the yard, I'd recommend getting snow blower for it and go that route. I have a 1997 Chevy S10 4X4 with ZR2 offroad package that's more than capable to mount a plow, but plow work is really hard on a vehicle, so I went with the garden tractor option. The X3 could probably handle small snows with a plow, but when we get a nor'easter that dumps deep wet snow, forget it. Last edited by pungo; 12-18-2020 at 05:36 PM.. |

Yup, this setup works well. Even though MD doesn't really get that much snow, sometimes we get dumped on with heavy wet snow from a coastal nor-Easter storm, and when we do, you better have equipment that can handle it. The last 2 years, I didn't even break out the tractor once. I'm sure some people here that see real snow laugh at Marylanders when they say they got a big snow.
I'll take the snow over the fires, so devastating.... |

I tried. I failed. The snowplow is too heavy. I just decided to buy a John Deere SB11 Series since we moved to a new house with a long driveway. Yes, in the summer, we are preparing for a long winter ahead. Also, I was thinking of changing the oil. But reading on https://trimthatweed.com/how-to-chan...in-snowblower/ I have found that it's not advisable. It's better to change the oil a dau before using the snowplow; in this way, you prevent it from turning into sludge.

In order not to miscalculate, you should always be based primarily on the peculiarities of the site. For cleaning a small area of 50-100 m2, it is enough to buy an inexpensive electric non-self-propelled model or a battery-powered technique - their capabilities will be enough to clean the area from a small amount of precipitation quickly, and their compact size will allow easy storage right inside the house. If the snow layer is average in thickness, electric models are not as effective. A gasoline-powered device that can be found at https://www.growgardener.com/the-best-garden-tractor/ will work much faster with a large square area.
