Production Delays

Is anyone else experiencing substantial production delays on the 2022 M40i’s yet? I took over a dealer ordered vehicle on Aug 10 and it was originally scheduled for Sept 1 production. Today BMW said it is scheduled for Nov 1 production start. I am trying to find out if it is one specific option I chose that is causing the delay as I am open to some changes if needed, but have not heard back yet.

Has anyone else had to change options or were made aware of a specific shortage or is this the current norm?

I ordered my M40I around Aug 3rd and it was delivered to the dealer yesterday - exactly 4 weeks after I placed the order. I believe that my dealer already had it on order for Sept, so he just changed configuration to my liking. Try to call BMW genius hotline - maybe some of your options (like body color, seat color, trim, etc.) are indeed on backorder - they should now

Can you track the production status on the BMW site? If so, what does it say?

Online the order has shown as “Order Received” and has shown that status for 3 weeks now. I called the genius line and they are the ones that said production is now scheduled to start Nov. 1. I asked if there were delays on any specific options that I could change with my dealer and they said that they could not tell me any specifics, just that it is now scheduled for Nov. 1. I called the dealership today, but have not heard anything back yet.

I ordered my m40i on the 16th. Pretty much fully loaded. It was originally set for a production completion date of Sept 8th, but I just called and its moved up to the 3rd. This might have something to do with your dealer allocation, I'd def call the genius line.

That's a dealer allocation issue, you either need to deal with it or find a dealer with an allocation slot sooner in the production queue.

Exactly - AFAIK "Order Received” for so long means your dealer did not have allocation - or they have allocation for November build. When I made my order last year, it was already "Scheduled For Production" because I was able to get a current allocation.

I’m not doubting you, but do you think that is the case considering I took over an existing order that they already had in process and the sales manager specifically stated that I could take over one of their allocation that they had for an M40i? I want to give them a little benefit of the doubt since I have bought multiple vehicles from them. I will get to the bottom of it one way or another.

Thanks for the responses and let me know what you think.

Did they clarify when the allocation was expected to be built before you took it over? Was there a discrepancy?

They said the status at the time was 112 where they could modify options and that the build date was scheduled for Sept. 1. They confirmed a week later that it was still scheduled for Sept. 1, but since my order status did not change online, I dug further. The genius line would not tell me much except to talk to the dealer and that they might know if it was a selection issue.

Maybe the dealer gave your allocation to someone else? Seems odd to push back two months out of the blue when nobody else seems to be having this issue.

I placed my order on August 20th, through a dealer allocation slot. I received a VIN# the following day, but my vehicle status hasn't changed since that first day, which is when it was in "Production begins" status. Called BMW Genius and they told me that it should finish production during the week of Sept. 8th. However, when I talked to my sales person yesterday, they said it should finish production by Sept. 3rd, and potentially arrive at the dealership by mid-Sept. If that schedule holds, then I would see my car within about 4 weeks of placing my order.

I placed my M40i order around Aug 10th and my vehicles awaiting transport. My dealer said it should arrive next week. I’ll be right around the 4 weeks point start to finish.

It is looking more and more like a dealer allocation issue based on the comments here. Have any of this progressing through the build process have carbon fiber trim? This is showing limited availability on the NAM build your own now.

This is my guess. Probably had a whale come in wanting to order ASAP at MSRP. First rule of being a salesman, don't let money walk.

Same boat here. Purchased on August 20th and was told "4-5 weeks" from the dealer. BMW Genius told me on Monday that it wont be ready until October 25th. WTF!

Again, no reason was given as to why the delays.

My dealer just responded stating that all of their vehicles are now delayed and show a Nov 1 start date. The dealer claims that all of their orders now show the same start date as a result of “Production Delays” and not related to any specific option or configuration. They claim that BMW is not giving them any other information, nor did they notify them of this delay until I brought it up. Sounds like it is time for me to confirm with other dealers before waiting another 2-3 months for this vehicle to be built. The dealer has been good to work with up until now, so I don’t just want to drop them on a whim without knowing a little more.

Status 47 (no allocation). Status 111 (order accepted will come with a production #). There are no allocations for November builds, those will be released towards the end of September.

We have a handful of vehicles that have shifted to November production weeks, so it is possible that happened. But the question is do you have production number?

In Finland, at the moment, you cannot order X3 e.g. with Driving Assistant Professional (adaptive cruise) at all, due to lack of some "chips" that are needed in radar. According the salesperson, there is not a hunch when this will possible. Same kind of problems with other marks.
