107,000 mile X3
My friend is thinking about this X3 with N55 engine for his soon to be 16yr old daughter. Anything he needs to be concerned about in regards to the car? It's a 2014

The daughter is blessed to have a father who loves her a lot. Lol. Realistically, imo, makes a lot more sense to gift her a Honda CRV/RAV4 instead. Reliability/insurance cost are important, especially at 16 yrs old. As for what he has to be concerned about.....my educated guess is his wallet...lol

Old Volvo (safety, built like a tank) or Jap econobox....I'd stay away from anything that has a good deal of horse power....like an X3 w/turbo 6 motor.

The X3 is safe vehicle, but the power is likely going to result in speeding tickets for a new driver. The real question is how much has the maintenance been done on that 2014 X3 and its engine? There is a thread or two on here about preventative maintenance for vehicles over 100k miles. If it's a good price and maintenance is good, go for it.

Way too much car for someone who literally just got their driver license. Financially it makes zero sense when you add everything up (purchase price, in$$$urance on a 16 yr old, fuel, maintenance, eventual speeding tickets, accidents, etc.) She must either be a real spoiled princess or the parents have more money than sense. As mentioned before, better that she gets an older good running Volvo or a Honda/Toyota until she's had more years of driving experience and maturity.

+2 for the Honda or Toyota. Repair costs can be steep if the owner isn't able to tackle jobs. A 16 year old can't afford downtime or repairs on that car.
