Remote start

I am pretty sure there's another thread about this but does anyone know when can we expect the X3 to have remote start?

+1 on this

I even been doing research about it and only found this company "Eurostart" has an aftermarket one. I spoke to someone in PA about it that installs it. They actually said you need to give them an extra key fob so they can mount it into the car so the remote start will work. Sounds pretty crazy, definitely not something i would do. I asked about installation and they said it would cost around $1,200

I'm interested but not desperate......

For now, I run out, open the door - start it, blowers on full blast with the heat up, seats come on automatically, then I lock and go back in the house.

With the car started and the key away from the sensors, the horn will sound on my X3 - I assumed sure its part of the new keyless security BMW introduced to alert people when the vehicle is started and doesn't have the key in it.

As soon as the key goes out of range, the horn will sound twice. Then it keeps happening every 15-20 seconds until the key comes back into range...

Pretty sure this will never arrive in the UK/Europe as it's against the law to idle as far as I'm aware...

Edit: "Vehicle idling is an offence against the Road Traffic (Vehicle Emissions) (Fixed Penalty) (England) Regulations 2002. The law states that is an offence to idle your engine unnecessarily when stationary. If you fail to turn your engine off after being spoken to you may be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £20."

Same in Germany.

The law states: "When using vehicles, unnecessary noise and avoidable exhaust pollution are prohibited. In particular, it is prohibited to run vehicle engines unnecessarily [...]"

Fine for violation is €80,-

Same in France:
https://www.thelocal.fr/20190304/swi...egal-in-france

So remote start will never be available in Europe and thats the reason why BMW and other car manufacturers are offering the small stand alone heater.

I would have purchased the optional heater but the prerequisite was to have to have the display key - That was a no deal for me. I am pleased to report however that if necessary you can start the car & then lock it on a particularly parky morning ❄️ with the engine running.

I have not tried this yet, but can someone unlock the car (illegally of course) and drive away with car with engine running?

You can code this out using bimmercode.

If they were determined then maybe, but if the car is locked & the key away from the car I think maybe the immobiliser may kick in? The horn does sound twice but only when I initially lock the car & then not a peep out of it.

No, the engine will run as long as it's not switched off. Even with the key sitting at home on your desk.

Only thing will be a few messages in the dash pointing out the key is not inside the car.

It's actually available on the G30 5 series and G11 7 series in the UK. There's also a "remote parking" option that parks the car while you are outside of it. I've confirmed with a UK dealer that this option worked on an AUC I was close to getting.

It may be illegal to leave engine running but it doesn't stop other manufactures like Land Rover installing remote start in their vehicles. The Discovery does it.

Like the above post I just start the car and leave it. I have Ghost 2 fitted so even with the keys left in the car un-locked they couldn't steel it.

My wife’s UK spec 2020 Evoque has remote start. A brilliant feature it is as well.

Hold the key into the front window when locking, then the car think the key is inside and no honking

Current thinking is it will come with the 2022 MY and full iDrive7. My wife stopped looking at current X3's since they don't have remote start and it's very expensive to add an aftermarket solution.

As it's not only software but hardware related I would highly doubt it.

My wife and I just purchased a G01 with all the packages and were shocked that it didn't have remote start, neither does my f32 but that car is 6 years old and didn't have the technology package (not even sure if it was an option for the 4series in 2015), yet my 13 base model Altima came with it as standard on the key fob....

If this feature was soooo importand to you, why don't you ask before the purchase?
