This thing is quick!
I've had my X3MC for almost a month now. Only about 400 miles on the car.
Today, I was on the highway and some prick (in some crappy Impala or something) in the left lane was doing that thing where he's doing 60, won't move over and then when I go to pass him in the center lane, he speeds up to 80. The moment I get back into the left lane to pass a car in the center lane, he slows down to 60 again. Rinse and repeat. After the third or fourth time he does this, I've lost my patience. I'm following behind him in the left lane doing 60-65 and the center lane finally opened up. So I just hammer it. He tries to speed up on me again but I blow by his crappy car like he's standing still and after what felt like only 3 or 4 seconds, I look down and I'm doing 122mph. I was shocked. I slow down and start driving like a sane person. Couple of things...I've more or less thrown break in out the window. In addition, my car had about 100 miles on it when I got it and I imagine that it saw several spirited test drives. I bought it (not leased) so hopefully everything will be fine down the road. I welcome any efforts to assuage me Also, this car clearly is very fast, but it doesn't feel very fast to me. Maybe it's the lack of low end torque. Several times now I'd hit the gas hard and found myself going way faster than I thought.

Other people also think it's slower than it is, so it is fun to give people like that a surprise and hurt some feelings. |

I was pretty good about the break in but now, since the serivice) I’m nailing it whenever the mood strikes me
This thing is scary fast! I still don’t get people who did what that guy did to you. I’ve calmed down as I’ve matured but the last time, probably a decade ago, I didn’t respond as well as you. |

I've had several "educational" experiences as you've described in Italy, to include a total A-hole in an X5, and now here in the States (Ford focus ST most recently). The higher riding stance does tend to lull the driver into the illusion that they're driving slower than they actually are. Now that I'm lowered an inch, this has helped offset this illusion, but it's still no coupe or sedan ride. This S58 is simply damn fast-even more so with a tune. Enjoy your new ride and the confidence that you can trounce most cars on the road if the try and get frisky with ya.

The engine loosens up considerably once you're up to 4-5k miles, from the top of 3rd into 4th the pull is incredible for a 2 tonne SAV.

BMW technical docs have an "artists impression" showing peak torque from 2600-5600rpm. As you note, most dyno graphs show torque peaking around 3200rpm

Is that what it is? The X3 seems "slow" at 140mph lol and because its planted and stable. I went in a c7 z06 and at 120mph I thought it was going into warp speed but it really wasnt.

I'm sure the Z06/ZL1 is quicker past 120 or so, but I haven't had room to stretch its legs that far yet. The ZL1 was pretty stable at high speeds as well though. Every Corvette I've ever driven has felt a bit squirrely at the rear. |

Distance to asphalt has a LOT to do with speed perception. You were planted in the Z06. The F97 factory height easily lulls you into ignorant bliss relevant to your speed I lowered mine an inch and immediately noticed it "felt" like it was going faster. Speedo confirmed otherwise.

I already heard it in multiple posts that thats a silly reason and it doesnt make sense because Id6 is so much better etc etc. And only people who did not want to spend 5K+ over m40i msrp to a X3M would say that. Lol. Riight. I love technology, newest latest greatest gadget is a must have for a person like myself. So wether theres a modded M40i thats in my driveway or a potential could have been a X3M modded as well, because keeping cars stock is just not an option. The aftermarket companies do favor the S58 motors a lot more than the B58. But its okay. When I get bored of low 11 sec 1/4 mile and do want to reach the coveted 10 sec mark it will be time to upgrade since the 2021+ model versions finally get new tech in them. Currently I really do enjoy surprising a lot of muscle car and sport car owners of what a BMW SAV is capable of. Lol.

suby01 where's your low 3sec 0-60 dragy? lol curious
Adam X3M40i has the quickest B58 X3 M40i in the world right now His 0-60 and 1/4 mile on Dragy month after month can prove this I can see the low 3s 0-60 in the 2020 X3 M40i w/ BM3 STG1 E30 or STG2 E30 happening but not really on 93, also the 500hp crank (275lbs heavier though) X3M/X4M are only hitting 3.0-3.3s with a tune and are making 550-600whp (wheel power)

In my post above I said exactly the same thing. A 2020 M40i with a E30 tune will run under 3.5 sec 0-60. I never mentioned anything regarding a 93 octane tune.... Quote:
Low 3 sec. and under 3.5 sec to me it means the same thing. Figuratively 3.46 sec in my terminology is just that: low 3 sec AND under 3.5. If youre assuming a M40i does 3.01 and thats what I mean then thats totally not correct. If your buddy Adam has the fastest M40i thats wonderful to hear. Me not knowing what mods he currently has at this time very well may still make him fastest ever. But we can all assume that mod for mod that what he has in his car with the same OTS tune, and be it his car, my car, and any other 2020 M40i should be pretty close to the same times. I just dont understand the discrepancy? Sure I plan I getting a recorded video in the Dragy app. Currently it crashes in IOS. Because I dont dare to just post a screenshot from my app. Thats way too easy to falsify and then were back at this again. A M40i that is not owned by Adam cannot possibly go faster than 3.5 seconds. Lastly for the record Im not in this thread to make it a discussion of M40i VS X3M or how I fast I think my car is. I love the new BMW X3, even if its 30i trim. As a car enthusiast I appreciate speed and many different makes and models. Especially now after owning my first ever BMW which is the M40i. You guys may very well be BMW veterans. I am no where close. I enjoy coming to this side of the forum for news, reviews, questions, and complaints, as well as pictures of mean looking M SAV's. But lol it feels like every time someone who has a M40i in their signature gets immediately singled out for some random reason. Trolling is one thing and its absolutely not my intention. Either way Dragy will come I have nothing to prove or I am not interested in any "world titles" my car is 99% stock. Lol. Back to regular scheduled thread programming.
