Best spring to lower my ride.
Was going to order K&N Springs cause my local guy recommended them. Any better springs out there that won't empty my wallet? Do I have to buy anything else besides the springs?
Thanks! |

I just purchased a set of H&R Sport springs. 1.3-1.4" drop I think. Pretty reasonable.

H&R! Loving them. Eibach was not available for 2012 x3 in Canada By the way the drop ended up being 1.4 back and 1.5 front, so perfect. Also i have Electronic Damper Control (EDC) and the springs work great with the setup. I have 112,000km and the shocks seem to be good, didn't need to replace them, i would recommend you have the shocks inspected while you are having springs replaced just in case. I went Eibach + Koni Special Actives.
I have stock 19” square wheels. https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1641417

Also - maybe you already know or someone else. I will do some research. How do our dampers work w/ the sport, comfort, etc. settings? I am guessing it's a proprietary system we can't just throw aftermarket struts at if we want to keep it working correctly. Your thread seemed to indicate otherwise. |

My suspension choice is NOT recommended for the OEM adaptive suspension.

No, I do not. I'm familiar with that and it's a rare package, one not on my car. When I get into Sport mode the on-screen image implies it is changing the shock settings. I haven't done any back to back comparisons to determine if it's true. Reading up on it, supposedly there's a valving change internal to the shock that's adjusting the actual dampening. Perhaps I'm reading only specifically about the rare actual dynamic control? It's looking likely that I've misunderstood what's actually happening between comfort and sport modes, other than the obvious throttle / transmission shifting adjustments. I thought that the shocks were being tweaked as well - between 2 manually set modes. And thought that the Dynamic package was a much fancier multi point / automatic adjustment (perhaps a magnetorheological type system) on the fly sort of a thing. Not the case? |

If I were changing to lowering springs (sport springs), I'd also upgrade the struts/shocks as well. |

Interesting. So the screen lies! It colors in the shocks when it claims it's changing over to "Sport" settings. I suppose that's a generic image and only specifically applicable to the 223 equipped cars?
Funny, I was duped. I knew I didn't have 223, and hadn't really looked into it beyond that but thought it might yet have had something adjustable. Thanks - ****** Edit - just took a look under the car, and clearly a normal shock, nothing attached to them i.e. electronic controls or wiring. Hopefully this helps someone else. Sorry for the thread hijack. Last edited by tracer bullet; 05-20-2020 at 08:12 PM.. |

So you don't have a setting like this for separate components ? |

I'm really happy with my Koni FSD + Eibach combo. Nice drop but still practical amount of ground clearance. Rides really well with Konis, not harsh at all.

I'm on the bandwagon of wanting to add lowering springs as well but my concern was with the sway bar links. Does somewhere offer shorter links because I thought you want that sway bar at a certain "level" for it to perform properly. In other words, if you drop 1 inch, I'm guessing you want a link that is an inch shorter.

It just pivots, much as it does if you hit a bump. And rests in its new position. Which is different than stock, but not an apparent issue.

I ended up going with H&R. Installed yesterday and loving it so far, still needs to settle.
