Muffler tips

I am looking to replace the muffler tips on my X3M. Has anyone measured the muffler outlet pipe dia, i.e., inlet size for tips?
Thanks

I will assume interest, but no one has measured yet.
So, to answer my own question, I removed on of the tips today.
Muffler outlet dia. is 88 mm, or just under 3 1/2 inches

People don’t want to dive into this one, maybe if you post some pics like kzg1969 has requested, you might get some more replies.

Didn't bother taking any pictures. It is easy to see what they are like by looking under your own X3M. Exhaust tips, chrome on X3M, black on X3MC, tap off quite easily using a rubber mallet or hammer and piece of wood. No bolts or screws to undo. Just thought someone might have already done this and measured the tailpipe outlet dia either to change from chrome to black or to fit aftermarket tips.
If you do remove the tips, be careful they do not fall onto the floor and scratch. Also be careful not to break the spring retaining clip when/if refitting. Obvious if you do remove tips.

As a further note, I could not find any aftermarket tips (EBay, Amazon) with the correct inlet dia. I have ordered 4 carbon fiber covers to see if they will work. Will take pictures when they arrive but don't hold your breath. Delivery is not expected until May/June. Damn Covid 19!

I found this, seems pretty easy install once you remove the ones that comes. Being from Manhart should be decent quality too, still deciding as 800 euros just for tips is pretty high.

Thanks for that, but I think these might only fit Manhart exhausts. The inlet looks too small compared to outlet to fit stock muffler. Either way, $800+ before shipping from Europe is too rich for me.

I have a new set of BMS billet tips for my F80, but those are 63mm. Not even close. Don't have my X4M yet but didn't realize they were so much bigger than the F80.

Yes, surprised me too. The tailpipes flair after exiting the muffler. The stock tips are not extensions but fit directly onto the tailpipes.

My carbon tips finally arrived from China. Overall quality of them is OK. I am not 100% happy with the fitment but they look good enough without very close inspection. The slant is not quite the same as factory tips so they do not line up perfectly with the muffler outlet pipes. They come with heat proof tape that goes between tips and outlets. There is no locking mechanism so I drilled a hole underneath and used self-tapping screws which cannot be seen unless you lay underneath the car. May change at a later date if factory options come out, but for now, at $72 for four I am happy. First pic shows carbon tips (left) and chrome tips (right).

Seventy-two dollar tips on an $80k car? You get what you pay for. The "carbon fiber" appears to be printed on. Definitely NOT an improvement from stock.

Refer to the Eisenmann thread for the proper look...

No, carbon is real and decent quality. It is actually better than the factory carbon interior on my old 996 Porsche C4S.

I think the opposite. I think for $72, he didn't go wrong. It might not have the same angle, as OP stated, but $72! Some may argue that the Eisenmann isn't right, because they're 90mm vs 100mm, and that's way more than $72.

Thank you for that. I have a general rule regarding comments made on car forums: unless you have something nice to say or are answering a question, don't say anything at all. It is interesting to note that BMW, Eisenmann, and Akrapovic all have different ideas about exhaust tips for the X3M.

They actually look pretty good. Don't be fooled though, you can't get a single tip in real carbon fiber for $72 let alone all 4. They seem to accomplish what you were going for though nonetheless

I started this thread to ask if anyone had measured the muffler outlet pipes as I was looking to change the tips and even got some grief for that (I didn't take pictures). A couple of people asked to see the new tips when I was done. Hence the updated post with pics. I thought is was worth taking a chance on these at the price. They were advertised as real carbon but you never know until you see the actual product.
Glad that you think they look pretty good, but I can tell carbon fiber from plastic. These are definitely carbon. I actually drilled holes in them for fixing screws which confirmed that they are woven carbon throughout. They are quite thin and purely decorative. I can imagine that with no structural requirements carbon items can be made very cheaply. Even then, the Chinese sell carbon fiber bike frames for less than $300, which makes $72 muffler tips look expensive.

Disclaimer: If you buy a carbon bike frame for less than $300 and it snaps in half while riding I take no responsibility.

Any folks with additional options here? Would be interested in adding larger tips as I did on my F80 ZCP.

Haven't seen any tip options available - would be interested to see if the G80 inside diameter is the same - if it is there will be a lot of options in the next few years.
