Real world highway fuel economy X3MC

Hi guys just drove from SF to AZ and logged the trip so here are the results.

I would say highway 95% city 5%

Hit about 40m of 5mph traffic on the trip as I entered AZ.

779 miles

19.4mpg

73.1 avg speed

Yup.

I’m almost all around town and am 12-13.

It doesn’t seem to make a difference if I grandma the gas or get on it (under 5k as I’m only at 800 miles).

Highway is significantly better for most people. Just taking off from a stop is like 0 mpg.

The left stalk button will show you the real time MPG in the lower cluster. Turn that on and see what you can do to improve or just say F it like I did lol.

I'm around 12-13mpg too. I'm at about 700 miles in mine. I've been stepping on it a little more these days but not past 5500 rpm. I presume gas mileage is going to be worse after break in service since I'll be stepping on it more.

Yeah only in eco mode...

I'm usually driving around in eco no matter what always seem to have sufficient power when I need it around town. Usually averaging 14-16 mpg

Just finished a 120-mile highway trip (car only has 475 miles, so not anywhere near broken in) and got 19.6 running at an average 70-75 mph in ECON mode. Around town mostly 15 or so, but it's still new.

I'm doing exactly the same. I figure I want to build up to it before I shove it all in cold

I'm not sure if it will get that much worse post break-in as when I was driving it to 2k maybe 3k it made no difference at all.

20-21 on the highway around 70mph, active cruise control

It’s difficult to get anything higher but as mileage increases and weather warms up a bit I’ll see higher.

Wow - those are horrendous. I know the S58 is not the B58 in the X3 M40, but this has to be 10+ mpg worse. I average 23 on my F80 6MT commuting about 80% highway, 20% suburban side roads. Anyone come from an F80 that knows the difference they're seeing with their X3 M?

Worse certainly, but not 10mpg worse. I averaged 15.6 in the X3M40i, and getting about 3 mpg less during break in with the X3MC. Needless to say, one does NOT purchase this vehicle for its exemplary gas mileage!

I'd love to benefit from US gas prices here in the UK. Currently UK are about 3 times more expensive than US. It's one of the most painful things about my X3MC Vs previous 430i. Currently we are $1.65 per litre.

20-20.5mpg in the UK is the average nearly every week since i got mine, can get lot more on a motorway run but still thirsty. Never got an M car for great mpg tho. I used to average about 31mpg in my 35d F25 X3 if anyone wanting a comparison.

I'm 14.5 L/100km (i think that's approx 16-17 mpg when converted)

~6100km in total on the clock, all in winter mode.

I average 21mpg over 4400 miles (UKg) it's the long run MPG that isn't there my F80 M3 would do an easy 35mpg on a 200 miles run the X3M struggles to get to 25mpg.

12-13 mpg in mixed city driving is just about right. Anything more is a bonus.

I did manage to pull ~9.x L/100km (~26 mpg) on a highway run 120km/h for about 4 hours with the cruise control on and all the other safety bits. Dull, mindless drive but got good mileage...

Sounds like you guys need to look at getting a 1986 Honda Civic. Who knew that a heavy supercar SAV would get bad gas mileage?

Weight is a huge factor. The X3M is significantly heavier than the F8x so the engine has to work that much harder. I would expect the s58 engine in the G80 to perform more on par with the s55 in terms of mileage.

My only complaint is that X3 comes with such a small fuel tank. Forces me to refill every three days.
