winter tires, mounting each season
If I was buying I would just buy a set of wheels but since I am leasing for 3 years, I don't want to deal with trying to sell the winter wheels (always a pain). Any risk of re-mounting my summer/winters for 3 seasons (so each tire being mounted 3 times)? issues with tires or rims that is, if I have a professional shop do it.
I know it will cost me an extra $450-$500 over 3 years to keep doing it, but better than $2,000 for a set of winter wheels |

I've been doing this on my 340i for the past couple seasons and have had no real problems. There's just some leftover glue from the previous weights used balancing.
Of course you run the risk of having scratches introduced if it isn't done correctly every time. |

hell my old C63 would chew thru tires every 8,000 miles, so I guess whats the difference between new tires every year and remounting these. Is there any damage that can happen to the tires after remounting 3 times? |

Absolutely. The scorpion winters in oem size at tire rack. I'm running them on the factory rims already. One of the Michelens was damaged during transport, so we early mounted the winters to avoid delivery delays. Scorpion winters are very nice so far. I can't wait to try the Michelens in the spring! |

Works out fine! Did the last 3 yrs. with X5 swapping out between summer and winter with same rims.... Even with the 21"s on my new X4M will have Scorpion Winters put on Thursday. Dealer swaps and stores tires for 180 a year. When leasing we went with tire and wheel package as well as the lease protection package! With these there's no worry. |

One factor is the cost of the tire swap, discount tire for example is $85 each time and I don't think that includes the tpms rebuild kit which most tire places insist you purchase each time. so thats $85x6 swaps = $510, vs $0 if I buy the tires from them as they will change the full sets for free every season. |

Is there a specific reason BMW does not have an all season factory staggered option available for the X3MC or why they picked this staggered configuration with zero all season tire options? Bmw won't even let you downgrade to the 20's which have plenty of all season tires available in a staggered setup. The amg Gle 63, Porsche cayenne turbo/ cayenne S, and even the 2020 BMW Alpina B7 have all season factory tire options you can select or after market tires available. What the hell was bmw thinking this is an sav/suv not a summer only M3/M4 sports car.

Anyone know if there are issues running 255 width on the 21" rear wheels (10" width).
would save about $140.00 to go 255 all around vs 255/265, for $50 I wouldn't care but $140 for a tiny bit of extra width seems silly. right now I am leaning to remounting each season. $1128 at discount tire plus $80 each time to remount for 255/40/21 if I got a 20" wheel/tire set from tire rack its $2467 for a decent looking wheel so even paying $480 over the next 3 years (lease) I would be saving $859. The wheels are $1385 new with the tpms, I doubt I could get over $800 for them used when lease is over, generic wheels not OEM... only question is if I really like the car and get another one, then I will be pissed I didn't get wheels, LOL seriously doubt these will fit on the new M3 which is what I would most likely get when lease is over. |
