Massive X5M Brake Upgrade Coming
After seeing the innovation hardparker did on the X5/X6 brake upgrade I decided to take it to the next level.
I purchased X5M Calipers with brake pads on ebay but then ran into an issue when I purchased after market rotors from brakenetic. You can read about it here https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1572371 I just purchased OEM F85 Rotors albeit at double the cost of the brakenetic ones, which is why I waited so long to get them. That just be arrived today. I will detail the install here once I receive the hardware from hardparker. These brakes are massive 395mm monsters. I did not realize how big they where going to be!!! Coincidentally that also happens to be the size of the new X3M/4M Brakes. https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1534505 https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...4#post23719494 https://www.ebay.com/itm/254176919313

I just replaced my brakes, so wont be doing this mod anytime soon, but interested in how it goes for you. Any idea what the minimum rim size is needed for clearance? I run 18" with snow tires in the winter, so wonder if those would fit or if I would need to get new rims for winter. I run 20" rims in the spring/summer/fall.

I hunted near and far for some X5M calipers and rotors but no sauce short of new ones from the dealer. I wish I saw them on ebay before I did my brake service!
Interested to hear about how things clear!

To eaby I go! What style of wheel are you running?
Could you pm me pics of your custom intake please? Thinking about doing the PR coil kit and will have to get crafty with the intake.

I'll take plenty of pictures once I get them on. I started prepping them for paint last weekend when my die grinder broke. I'll try to have them on this weekend.
You will most likely have to run 20" wheel to clear them.

Finally sprayed them last weekend. Not my best work but I was in a time crunch. I ordered curved brembo decals but was sent straight ones in error, so I had to reorder. Unfortunately the guy is in Israel so it takes quite a bit of time to get them. I'll try to install them as soon as I get a chance.

They are on! Trimmed a little bit of the heat shield and used hardparker's bolt and spacer. I haven't had a chance to really lean on them hard yet but they look amazing!!!
Still waiting for the brembo decals to get here.

Whats the stock braking distance? Would love to know how this upgrade effects that.

I have no idea what stock braking distance is. Brake upgrades are mainly done to improve brake fade. I can tell you that initial braking feels much improved over the stock brakes and they look amazing .
My commute to work is short and in the city so I haven't had a chance to really put them to the test yet. I'll report back once I get on the highway and hit them at 100 plus. That will be the real test.

Nice setup, rcsup1. I think you may be the first to be rocking the X5M brakes. What wheels are those? Did you use the stock hoses and wear sensor? Any shots of those pretty spacers? Lol
Published stock braking distance from 60 mph is 125 feet. Stickier tires will make more of a difference than brakes will, most often, at low speeds. My braking tests with Dragy showed identical results with X5 50i front brakes and Firestone Firehawks on shit pavement around town. I couldn't find braking distances from 100+ mph speeds, but I can tell you the bigger brake setup is far superior there. Instead of smoked brakes and white knuckles, it just hauls down. Fast. Confidence inspiring, rather than frightening.
