19" Tyre pressures
29 PSI all round (2 Bar)
Have I read this right - and is this what everyone with 245 (front) and 275 (rear) uses, 19" wheels?

Yes - I was surprised how low these pressures seemed but am using them at the moment. Feels OK.

I think if the car is fully loaded, the pressures are 2.2 bar rear and 2.1 bar front? I inflated mine to those pressures initially, but the car didn't ride so well. I have dropped back to 2 bar all around and it is much better over bumps. I guess it is OK, but I too had thought that 2 bar seemed low.

Excellent, as long as i've got it correct. I thought it seemed a bit low! I was expecting 36psi or so.
Cheers

I always used to run my X5 a little higher than standard on the rears at 2.4 instead of 2.2 as it seemed to help with the inside wear due to the camber setting. They were 315's on that. The camber does not appear to be so excessive on the X3 with 275's on the back.

I use 36 front and 40 rear (I think) on 19" 245/45 and 275/40 (35d). I think that adding some pressure actually makes for a smoother and more controlled ride as it takes the load off the side-walls. You should also notice less tramlining.
Also increasing pressure on my previous 335d with runflats dramatically increased tire life and mileage. On my first set the fronts wore out within the year. BMW told me that the recommended air pressure was really not good and told me that I should always increase the pressure. My new front tires + old rear ones lasted an additional full 3 years. That's just my opinion. |

I agree with Chris55.
When I had my X3 F25 and 19" (255/40 all corners no run flat) I had mine at 36/40 and normally added up to 38/42 when controlling. Wear seemed far less, comfort did not supper, but the cars sportiness was much improved, and lastly it improved fuel economy) Today I run an X5 E70 with 19" (255 - 285 run flat), and here I also add more than BMW says in manual, same picture as with the X3 My opinion as well |
