for it's price point, im okay with that dash. If they added too many x5m features it would drive the cost up and potentially take away from sales of those vehicles.

Awesome, that's going to be a BIG step up from the 35i. Did they give you any discount off MSRP?

A manual steering wheel in an M? Does the cost reflect that?

Moderator:

The 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series 4 Series, X1, X2, X3, and X4 all have manual steering wheel adjustments. As usual, any M products that are based on them will share their feature set. These are entry and mid level luxury products that don’t have all of the content of the 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series, X5, X6, X7 and M products based on them.

As a general rules, an M vehicle’s higher price reflects a healthy dose of additional Performance above the Series vehicle. M Division is not about adding luxury features.

That's because the price is not in the X5M or M5 league.

Handled and rode great. Sounds good. For comparison I traded my 2016 X5M for an F90 M5. Also just drove a M40i.

Looks are up to the Individual. Performance rocks !

Only dings from me is the dash is not Leather and the steering wheel is manually adjustable. Overall, a very solid performer.

I drove the car a few hours ago & im not sold on it. I think it looks cheap on the inside and I can't wrap my head around a "competition" M SAV. Maybe I'm comparing it too much to my F80 M3 but I just think it's sub par. I do think that the exhaust has a similar note to the F80 so it sound ok but everything else seems dull. I was exploding to hot that throttle and get excited and it actually was a let down. Maybe it's the transmission? Also, not thrilled with the tech on the car. The digital dash is gimmicky and the mess of a gear shifter is more annoying then it is functional. All together, I think my money is better spent on a different M car. The dealership was pretty great they pretty much pulled the car up and said "take it out". The only condition was to try and return the car in 20 minutes. I beat the hell out of the X3M and properly put it through its paces. Again, not impressed. PS: I'm an M car fan boy and have been salivating at the thought of a true X3 M. It looks like BMW is watering their lineup down.

Yeah I agree. It's sad because they had a great opportunity to knock this one out of the park. I hate to say it as a huge fan of BMW M but it's an embarrassment to the brand. They need to fire whoever green lighted this project.

No M mirrors
MASSIVE FENDER FLARES

BMW X3M

No fender flares.

If the X3M is successful they will make it more radical.

Here is a first non-commercial exhaust video.
Sounds great IMO. Unfortunately the European models will not have the same sound due to OPF.

I don't Agree at all I have a 900Hp F80 and a Comp F90M5...…..I was on the track at Thermal doing hot laps with both F82M4's and M5 F90 Comps and this X3M was right with them. The Car is Dynamically insane and the amount of Grip it has blew my mind......It needs to be driven like a real M car to experience it...….BMW is not watering their line up down its the complete opposite.

BMW makes M cars with Dual Personalities now.. incredible comfort when in efficient and up to full tilt.... driven hard you will see there are no compromises you will really only experience that effect visiting a track day or a BMW performance driving school.

At least that's my Biased opinion !!!

I actually like the "sleeper" look. If anyone wants more radical, they can just make it their own with M performance parts. Plenty of options...
Remember the first M cars? They looked less M than any current M35 or M40
To each their own...

I think it looks ok but the performance is going to be exceptional. People want a X5M at X3 prices. This is going to be fast and placed perfectly in the lineup.

Yes, I'm certain your hot laps at Thermal we're different then my hot laps down US-1 in East Fort Lauderdale. In a quick and dirty 20 minutes this was my impression. I'm willing to give it another chance.

Of course .. if it needs to be driven on a track to be appreciated ... that's a very high bar for satisfaction.

I drove an X3 base and will have to agree that it was taller and wider than I was hoping for. The X3M40 seems like a waste other than being faster. The X3M ups the game and the comp model seating and interior are fantastic but I am hoping that it's lowered a little bit and more engaging to drive as well. Will give it a spin.

Sorry, but I completely disagree. I have owned the X3 M40i for 8 months now, and have driven the base X3 a number of times for extended periods (mostly as loaners). Their is a BIG difference in power, handling (suspension) and braking over the base X3. It's not even close.

Similarly, I'm betting the X3M has significant improvements in those same areas over the X3M40i. Quite a few X3M40i owners have posted that they are upgrading to the X3M, so we'll know soon.

That X3 M40i stock will run laps around ANY F15 35i with Flash Tune, the MPPK is a joke to be honest like 15hp more lol.
Imagine what a X3 M40i tune will do? I managed to do 0-60 in 3.8s on just pump gas and winter tires in friends car.
