Lock Button delay/interference

I am having an ongoing issue that the car is ignoring my presses of the Lock button on the remote for a few seconds after leaving the vehicle.

Seems to happen most often when in Comfort and I park, the vehicle goes into Auto-Stop, then I get out and press the lock button. Nothing happens, no matter how many times I press the button. I have a wait a couple of seconds, then press again, and it will finally lock.

Several times this has resulted in my leaving the car unlocked because I haven't specifically checked the car responded to the button press.

Anyone else noticed this?

When you say car goes into Auto stop are you also pressing start/stop button? If not I don't believe you can lock it

In that case it would horn. I never had such an issue.

If you put the car in Park after auto-stop and open the door, it is the equivalent of pressing the start/stop button.

Thanks, I never knew that, I tend to do it the other way round, pressing start stop button puts car into park

it should not shut off the engine after putting into P, and opening the door. The engine is still running, at this point it should honk if you try to lock it.

I think we are getting a little off-topic

Point is, pressing the lock button is having no effect for a few seconds (neither locking the car nor sounding the horn). I'll try and capture it on video.

I mentioned the auto-stop thing because I suspect, possibly, the cause is that because the car is in the process of transitioning from 'standby' to 'off' when I get out, it's unable to process the lock command for a few moments.

It does if the engine is already off due to auto-start-stop. It's part of comfort access. If you pull into a parking spot and the ASS switches the engine off because the car came to a standstill, putting the car in Park and opening the door also switches the ignition off - as if you'd pressed the Start/Stop button. Radio stops, exterior welcome lights come on etc etc.

Have you checked if the battery level of your remote is low? How about the response time of your 2nd remote, same as first one or better? This may tell you if this is a problem of the remote, or a characteristics of the car itself.

How about the lock button on the door, or the touch-activated lock on the door handle? Any delay from using those methods?

I recently read an article stating that Apple has acknowledged the fact that if you have the latest gen iPad Pro along with the Apple Pencil AND the pencil is currently charging from the iPad there has been instances of this interfering with car key fobs.

This probably isn't the cause in this particular instance but thought it would just throw it out there just in case.

I have noticed this myself in my new M40i. Sometimes a press of button won't lock or unlock the car....very odd. Wait a few seconds and it seems to work.

Car going in next Friday for loose trim above boot, so will mention and/or try and demo then

This sort of happens to me pretty regularly as well. Also noticed it on my wife's old 2016 X5. Except for me it's not with the fob. I'll get out and press the comfort access ridges on the door and they will go down very slightly but not lock. I can press it several times and see them move but not lock. If I wait a second or two and try again, it works every time.

Over the weekend I had problems again opening the car. So today I changed the remotes around so I have now got what was my spare one. Changed over all my driver setting. Went back out to the car this afternoon and could not open it took 5 presses of the button then it would not lock. I got my partner to try and took 3 presses and then locked. I am now thinking this must be a problem on the car not the remotes. Looks like it is going back to the garage 🙁

Press Start/Stop once before opening door. IDrive should power off (unless you're on a BT call) and car should lock with a single press.

I recommend you set mirror fold on lock so you can confirm car is locked.
