Washer Fluid Capacity!?

Does anyone know what the capacity of the washer fluid reservoir is on the X3 is?

Mines done 2200 miles now and I haven't had to top up the washer fluid yet! And that's in British Winter conditions with salt and muck on the roads and me constantly cleaning the front and rear windows!!

No idea but it must be a lot as my F25 only gets topped up once a year when serviced.

I sort of vaguely recollect reading somewhere that it was 6.5 litres?
Not 100% on that though!

My light turned on days ago so mine is almost empty. This will be my second time filling up and I'm at approx 2,100 miles.

I will use [waste] 100% of the fluid before refilling and report back the results!

It's more than 4 liters. It gobbled up what I gave it.

It takes almost 2 full gallons when completely empty! Definitely larger than 4L.

My warning came on the other day so I bought a 4L tub thinking I'd have some left over - I was surprised when it took the whole thing (I even took a quick look under to see if it was spilling/leaking anywhere haha)

verysideways thought it was 6.5 liters (~1.7 gallons), and that appears to be pretty close to what you needed.

Edit: seriously, though, that's an absurd amount. What is BMW using this for? Ballast?

I can understand why they put a larger than average washer fluid tank since there are 3 sprayers for the windshield (vs typical 2 on an average car) and the washer is coming out strong. They also considered extra washer fluid is needed for the back windshield too.

Idk but it works really well and also does a good job of cleaning the windshield. It even worked when it was -22 the other day. I like it better than BMW's factory solution!

Exactly, my F30 only had two sprayers on front, and none on rear, and I refilled it every couple of weeks in winter!

Yet another advantage of owning an SUV i guess!

I will have to get back to you on the product name. No I have not noticed any staining but maybe I'm unaware of a potential issue I should be looking for.

11k. Tbh I only do the initial pull on my F25 as the double squirt of the headlight washers on a full pull seems such a waste.

Since I got the new one, without those headlight washers, mine is like a bloody TARDIS. I tried to top it up the other day after using for nearly two months, and it only took half a litre!

The Prestone ones are the best in my experience. The extreme winter one is incredible, it's virtually unfreezable, melted ice on my screen at -14°C last year!

This may not apply in your case but every time I went to fill mine it only seemed to take half a litre also. It just didn't make sense to me. Turns out though I wasn't actually filling it.

After a search here I found the reason, my driveway has a slight slope, I reverse in so the car is nose down when parked. Last time I tried to fill the washer I drove in so that I was 'nose up' and filled over 5 litres.

Well the washer fluid light finally came on today, at 3500 miles!!

Filled it up and it took nearly 6 litres!
