Top F25 Issues to check before warranty expires?
Hi,
My MY2012 F25 xDrive35i is about to go out of extended warranty as we approach 100k miles and I was wondering if anyone knows about a checklist of things I should make sure the dealership reviews and fixes before it expires. Ours has been pretty problem free outside of a valve cover gasket leak, thankfully. Any tips would be appreciated - thank you. Rob |

Thanks for the warning about the thermostat and water pump E90705.
My plan is to take the car to an independent shop for a PPI, as they would be able to do a more thorough examination than I, and bring any photos of issues to my dealership for repair while still under the extended warranty. Anyone here aware of what the warning signs are for water pump issues? Forum posts I've read only point to failures that are fairly immediate (high engine temp, limp home mode), without any warnings. |

^^^This. BMW won't replace anything unless it has failed. An inspection may or may not be worth the $$ depending on what your extended warranty covers. For example, it doesn't do much good to have an indy tell you that your control arm bushings are tearing if the warranty does not cover wear parts like that.

Valvetronic and the eccentric shaft just failed on our X3. $3000 at my Indy shop. Needless to say, didn't see this coming.
I'll be posting a thread once I have more clarity on resolution and fix next week. I'm finding that total failure, as I described, versus replacing a sensor, is quite rare. Last edited by malicem3; 12-13-2018 at 06:11 PM.. |

Update:
So, amazingly and luckily, my X3 started having a loud droning sound coming from the engine bay, eventually followed by the "engine hot, drive mildly" message from iDrive. I happened to be near my dealer and dropped it off and they determined it was, as expected, the water pump - it is being replaced under warranty (which expires in 2 days). Under the wire! Anyway, I thought it might be useful to relay that for our N55 there was a warning sound ahead of the system notification and engine getting too hot - that loud droning sound. Good luck fellow N55ers!
