2017 X3 Instrument Light Delima

2017 X3 28i M-Sport, about 25,000 miles.

When the lights are off and the car is running, the instrument cluster displays as the top photo below, the only thing that is illuminated is the small rectangle below the speedometer.

When the lights are on and the car is running, everything is lit up in red, as it should be as shown in the bottom photo.

My question is, when the lights are turned off and the car is running, shouldn't the gauges also be illuminated, only in a white light?

I've checked the iDrive settings, brightness dial settings, etc. Everything looks good.

I took it to my local dealer and they told me that the gauges are NOT illuminated when the lights are off, even though I'm certain they were illuminated and just stopped working one day.

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated. Am I missing something here?

The dealer is correct. The only illumination is the red illumination, which only comes on when the lights are on and darkness is detected.

I think there's something wrong, it's too dark, you can't see anything... or was it done in the dark with lights off?

Can you see it during the day though?

Because if you can that's normal.

The dash has 3 light modes

- off
- dusk/dawn white lights
- full-on amber lights at night/headlights set manually to on

I can see the gauges during the day, they are not backlit and can be difficult to see with varying light conditions.

How do you turn on "dusk/dawn white lights? I think that's what I'm looking for.

My 2017 X3 has a different instrument cluster, when the car is off there are 2 chrome rings but everything else is black, when you start the car the dials appear in a white light and when its going dark they change to amber. Also the bottom of the left hand dial has a similar digital gauge that can show a variety of information - not sure if this is forms part of the professional media pack or its because I have head up display?

its Technology package inlcudes nav, hud and instrument cluster u describing.
when the engine is off, cluster is blacked out and with engine on its white display during day/orange at night

gcmrocket doesnt have Tech pack, because of the instrument cluster display.
