Yes Porsche got the Macan design right first time, unlike the Cayenne. It’s a pretty SUV for sure, but should a 4x4 look pretty is the question!? Many people want chunky, rugged (ugly!?) looks for their SUV so the X4 may do nicely
If you ask me the best looking SUV of all time is the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It most often in that position in my view. Previous generation of X5 was right on the money too. Macan and previous generation X6 are the hottest coupe+suv cars.... this new X4 has something from x6 looks so that's why I like it. Also the new MB in this category is nice, it says "look at me b'tches" all over...

oh wait, its because it starts exactly at what the GLC43 starts at...

if X4M costs $6K more than X3M I doubt many will be buying it. Imagine if the M3 was $6,000 cheaper than the M4.
More standard features with that $6k.

Anyone know if factory tow hitch is available?

okay I see that now, but not much, maybe $2500 worth, so I guess the "Coupe" premium for it is around $3500...

Carbon fiber roof, amen to that! We do not want any jumbo size moonroof/sunroof overheads. Keep it lighter and stronger for our taste. Also some M side rearview mirrors.

Really cool video / commercial for the new X4. Liked the music and the more aggressive vibe, about time. Liked everything besides for the hipster dude, lol.

Stunning

Never thought I'd say this about an X4, but this is stunning!

I hated the previous X4 and X6. The X2 is pretty odd looking too (in a different way than the X6). But this is gorgeous, both the front and the rear. It looks better to me than a Macan, which I also like a lot.

Hopefully this is a return to pretty looking BMWs. Great job Bavaria!

Go to Toyota forum and tell people there you don't understand the appeal of Camry or Corolla.
Each to their own.
Very ignorant comment.
And that's a piss poor comparison...

The Camry/Corolla are two of the leading mid-size economy sedans in the country, on account of their reliability, practicality and affordability. So yes - I think the appeal of the segment is fairly obvious.

Styling is not a driving force at that end of the market.

The x4 is neither practical or affordable (by the standards of most of the population) - it's certainly not unreasonable to think BMW should deliver a design that's not as polarizing as that of the x4. Whether you like it or don't, it's indisputably very divisive.

to "most of the population" any BMW is not affordable, and a ton of them are not practical (Z4 and really any M). In fact the X4 is more practical than pretty much anything other than a X3, X5, X6, or X7 (more cargo room than 5 series or 7 series...), people really need to think of this like a wagon/hatchback for practicality, so it is more practical than 3/4 series sedan/coupe for similar cost. For example, is the X4 less practical than the X3, yes, is it more practical than 3 sedan or 4 GC, yes, so how is it not a practical vehicle? to those coming from a 340i its more practical, especially if they don't need the full cargo space of the X3, its more practical than what they had and a tad more sporty than a X3 would be. Its a niche car, it was built for a niche segment. BMW is a sport/luxury brand who started making cars for niche segments, the more niches they fill the more profit they make and the more they can spend on R&D for all future cars.

The only cars I never understood were the GTs because it seems like the X4 and X6 filled that niche...

Similar cost!!? This X4 will be far more expensive than an equivalent 3 series! My current 340i was £38k (basic msrp) so the new M340i by my reckoning should be no more than £45k msrp. The X4 M40i will be at least £54k as the uk pricing for M40d has already been set around that level...

I agree that the GTs are a waste of space... I’ve only ever seen one or two, they are effectively an uglier version of the X4/X6

I think blacking out the grill will make a big difference.

Or picking the M Sport which comes with black grille slats like the X3 M Sport does.

Additionally blacking out the grille's chrome outline as well might not be the best idea though, as that will probably only emphasize the gaping nostrils effect.

Very well said. And many people dont mind paying that premium for the coupe profile. Why else did Mercedes go out of their way to photocopy the X6 and make a smaller version as well? Audi is doing the same thing as we speak with the Q8.

The whole thing needs blacked out. IMHO, it looks great on all of the sportier models.

You can't compare the x4 m40i with an old model.

I guarantee you when the new 4 series GC M40i comes out it will be similar in price to the x4 M40i, Within $1,000 in the US at least.

Maybe, but I believe my original comment was a reply to the suggestion that X4 is similarly priced to 3 series, which simply isn’t right... Even the current 440i is £45,490... an M440i couldn’t possibly be any more than £49k... X4 M40i will be £55k so still a big gap! M340i will be no more than £46k I guarantee...

How big is it compared to the current X4? Looks much larger in the photos. Anyone know?

Only 5 inches shorter than the X6 (1st Generation) so it's pretty big sadly... probably too big for me!!

That is substantial...it will lose some driving dynamics.

I have been for the last 4 years a big critic of BMW design, but I think this is a win for them. It no longer looks like a baby X6. It looks sleek, but it could be more aggressive. Overall, I would buy it.
