This is interesting... Top speed is supposed to be 155mph (right?) and the other video of the X3 M40i racing on the Autobahn seemed to show that, but I guess they were not going at top speed since this thing hit 260kph which would be 161mph and it looks like it was read to go faster if it wasn't limited. Fun video.

Autobahn vs US Interstates
Hello
When I visited Germany some years back, before the days of online and online videos--my how time flies---I was very surprised at the Autobahns and how narrow they were compared to the US Interstates. A lot of our Interstates would be very fine at these speeds, but they are limited by law. In fact, except for speed limits, I much prefer the US system. One thing I really like about the Autobahns is that you stay in the right hand lane except to pass or go fast. If you cause an accident and are travelling in the high speed lane, and are hit from behind, its your fault. Folks in the US seem to adopt lanes at will, and while there are signs to keep right except to pass, its not very well followed. Bailyhill

In Germany, and the UK driving tests are really tough. It is exceptional to pass on the first attempt. Driving is seen as a privilege not a necessity (singe public transport is generally far better than it is here). When they hear that most jurisdictions allow 16 year olds to hold a permit, they are shocked. Despite weather (fog, sleet, ice and snow) Germany and Switzerland have much lower rates of fatal accidents. On the question of staying to the right hand lane, many North Americans are not aware that in most of Europe passing on the inside (right hand on the continent) is illegal. But no rules apply to motorcycles. |

As odd as it can sound, I always feel akward driving on a no-speed limit autobahn in Germany. And I end up driving slower than I thought I will.
Germans are more «*aware*» of the speeding cars on the left lane than people in neighbour countries. |
