Purchase/Lease X3
Hello All -
I'm a recent M4 owner and have converted my fiancee from Audi to BMW in the process. She has been searching for a Q5 for a while but since I moved from my B8 S5 to the F82, she's suddenly become interested in the X3. We test drove an X3 Xdrive28i last weekend and she liked it alot. I also happen to really like the LCI X3 and X5 - great looking cars, but are a bit out of her price range. I'm willing to contribute to her down payment, but that's the extent of my involvment (other than mods ). Anyways, in terms of financing, we're looking at 2014s with M Sport, Tech, and Premium packages. She has no interest in the non-M Sport versions as she likes the trim molding being painted body color. But we're looking at 3+ year old cars at that point, in the 35K range. I'm wondering, with current incentives, would it be better to look into leasing an LCI X3? We want her payment as close as possible to $400 per month. As a BMW owner and CCA member with my M4, would I be able to get her the loyalty bonus and CCA discount? I'm extremely ignorant to how leasing works as I've never even considered it an option before. This car will be used limitedly, mostly for winter driving and light trip duty in the summer, if that helps. Thanks for your help! |

lease for $400 month??? Given your options you're looking at closer to $850 with no money down and taxes rolled in.
Not gonna come even remotely close. |

Unless you are named as a co-lessee or co-purchaser on the documents, I do not believe this transaction will qualify for the BMW CCA rebate or a BMW loyalty incentive.

BMW in your area is offering a special offer lease of $439 on a 2016 X3. However, this is not equipped with the packages you named and does not include applicable taxes. The car used in the illustration is equipped with standard features such as 18" Light Alloy Wheels, Power Tailgate, and Enhanced USB and Bluetooth and has an MSRP of $41,945. Here are some details: $439*/month for 36 months. • $439 First months payment • $3,000 Down payment • $0 Security Deposit • $925 Acquisition fee • $4,364 Cash due at signing" Would your fiancee consider a vehicle in black, so the trim does not stand out? If so you might dispense with the M Sport package. You still may need a large down payment or very good negotiating skills to get close to your targeted $400 monthly payment. |

Americans kill me, you're so conditioned to false advertising, as are canadians (i am australian where the price is the damned price).
That's not even close to $439 a month, it's $548 before taxes so likely over $600 a month without the options the OP needs. Now we're back to near $800 a month i proposed earlier. |

The OP said he was willing to help with the down payment to get the monthly payment down as close as possible to $400 per month. He was not talking about rolling all the costs into a $400 monthly payment. I made clear in my post that even the $439/month lease offer required a $3,925 down payment and still did not include taxes or cover the option packages. My point was that leasing and incentives likely would not get him the deal he was seeking on a LCI X3 equipped as his fiancé wanted without a very large down payment. Sorry if this was not clear to you. On the other hand, if OP's fiancé buys a 2014 X3, maintenance and repair costs may be substantial when the no cost maintenance and warranty ends. |

I like how someone with 400 a month won't consider anything but the M package. Anyway good luck with that. If you have 400 a month get something new for 20k. If she is your fiancée you will be paying the payments soon enough. 35k car is more than 400 a month with a five year loan. I can't imagine the insanity of getting a 6 year loan on a BMW that is 3+ years old.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone puts money down.
Your effective monthly payment over the course of the term should include all monies paid or you're just deluding yourself. |

B) paying interest on less borrowed money C) those seeking to keep after lease term, less to save for in the end. There are also other viable reasons why people would reduce their debt and interest paid as quickly as possible. |

None of those make any sense unless your credit rating is diabolical.
a) Well no, you're not paying less each month you're just bringing payments forward, i don't understand the logic for a second b) But don't you need to borrow the downpayment too? If not, are you not better off investing it? c) Again you're just bringing expenses forward |

Not sure about credit rating, there isn't such a thing here in Switzerland. The closest thing would be the "Betreibungsregistereintrag"(failure to pay record), but in no way is a score. A) If I get a 4 year lease term, and plan to buy it out at the end of the 4 years, I might as well put in what I have now and save the difference between the total of downpayment + monthly payments to pay off in one lump sum B)Borrow downpayment. If you plan a bit you can easily save 20% for a downpayment C) Bringing forward expense, yes, but also offering yourself a comfortable way to finance a vehicle (using a financing plan as a payment plan) (only works if the lease is lower interest rate than financing) |

Sorry all three just defy logic.
Google "do i put money down on a lease" and 95% of hits say what i am saying, keep it as close to $0 as possible. |

We ended up purchasing a 2014 AW X3 M Sport, financed for 5 years at about $500 with CPO, and 20K miles. Has every package included, and 1 previous owner. In regards to the above, I am surprised by the nature of the responses. I never said she couldn't pay more, I said we would like to keep it near $400. She does not believe in paying $800+ for a car payment if shes planning to keep it for a while. I'd say for 26, having an X3 and M4 in the garage of a new house, we're doing just fine with our "budget." atomic you sound like the salesman that essentially said I was too poor for a BMW because I refused to be railroaded on my trade. We actually got really close on this, however the incentives just aren't there considering the X3 is in the final year of production for this particular model. Appreciate the input though.
