First Ever BMW X3 M (F97) Prototype Spied!
BIMMERPOST NEWS First Ever BMW X3 M (F97) Prototype Spotted Updated November 24, 2018 F97 X3 M prototype spied testing at the Nurburgring again. Updated August 16, 2018 Newest look at the X3 M on the Nurburgring. Updated July 11, 2018 F97 X3 M spied again hustling around the track! Updated May 16, 2018 X3 M spied on and around the Nurburgring Updated March 15, 2018 The X3 M has been spied inside and out during winter testing. These are the first interior photos and revealed here is the new M shifter and red M1/M2 buttons (camouflaged with black tape) just like those introduced in the F90 M5. Updated November 8, 2017 Here is the latest vide of the BMW X3 M prototype being flogged on the Nurburgring by BMW test drivers. As we've shared before, the F97 X3 M is being powered by an all-new S58 engine, which should also power the next generation M3 and M4. It's expected to make 450-460 HP in the X3 M. Expect the first ever BMW X3 M to be introduced in early 2019 and begin production as a MY2020 vehicle (U.S.). Updated September 20, 2017 The F97 X3 M has just been spied at the Nurburgring in its most revealing form yet. Updated June 22, 2017: Its camouflage remains the same as before, but the X3 M prototype has just added a sporty tailgate / roof spoiler. Updated March 31, 2017: It's been several months (since November), but the BMW X3 M has returned to the Nurburgring for further development, spied here in this latest video of the F97. It's a short clip, but still gives a good look and listen. Updated March 13, 2017: The F97 X3 M is taking advantage of the inhospitable Northern Swedish weather to test its cold weather chops. It's dropped a bit of camo up front to reveal the production headlights. And we now know that the F97 X3 M will debut an all-new S58 engine, which should also power the next generation M3 and M4. The X3 M will be introduced in early 2019 and begin production as a MY2020 vehicle (U.S.). The new S58 engine will make 450-460 HP. Be sure to follow our X3 M updates at: http://www.bimmerpost.com/x3m/ Updated November 7, 2016: The X3 M has been recorded testing on the Nurburgring! Updated July 27, 2016: A new F97 X3 M prototype has been spotted while undergoing Summer testing in Spain. The body camouflage remains the same as before, but we can see new wheels fitted for testing and new tires (Pirelli Scorpion) compared to the Pirellie P-Zero tires on the previous prototype. April 25, 2016 With the success of the BMW X5 M and X6 M models, BMW M is looking to expand its SAV lineup and will do so with the first ever X3 M (F97) model based on the upcoming new X3 (G01) generation (as first revealed in our upcoming BMW timeline). The new X3 will come in 2018 and the X3 M should be available soon after. The X3 M will be joined by an X4 M (F98) based on the next X4 (G02) model. Compared to the standard G01 X3 (see spy pics), this F97 prototype features many M traits -- more aggressive bumper with large air intakes, side skirts, rear diffuser, roof spoiler, M brakes and centered quad exhaust. This prototype was spotted testing in front of the BMW M-GmbH test facility in Garching near Munich/germany. |

It makes absolute perfect sense offering An M or an M Performance model from X1 to X7.

It makes absolute sense having an M and an M Performance model from (X) 1 to (X) 7. Fixed for you. But yes. That's what M does. |

Every time I drive past ///M where they make the engines(not the HQ in Garching)... I always see these X3M's and X4M's.

Wow, aside from the brand dilution which has been around since the "SAVs," haven't people been asking for one since the days of the E90? Now BMW decides it's a good idea.

Almost sure to be one or the other. I would have to put my money on the S55. Probably no S58 until next generation M3/M4.
Agree. No series engine has enough power for this application except perhaps an N63 which has exactly 0.000934% chance of appearing in any BMW with a number less than 5 in its model name. |
