Anyone try the Continental Extreme Contact DW? (for a pure summer tire obviously). My local shop said they had softer sidewalls (which is fine for an X3) but they also wear fast. Tread rating is 340. They should be ok I would think?

was in the same boat as you. im in toronto too, dws is better choice 90% of the time imo. dws will last way longer. also dws gives good buffer for winter and owns rain. dw will not be fun in heavy rain. dw is only good for 2-3 months per year for toronto imo, rain and cold will make it wear fast too

Thank you Bruce! I really wanted to move away from Goodyear LS2s and the MXM4 seemed like an improvement within the RF and All Season class. Plus BMW had a lot of good things to say about Michelin vs. Goodyear (at least the fellow I spoke with who's NEVER had a MXM4 returned).

I replaced my LS2s with MXM4s - non-runflat. I felt the ride and handling was much better. For security, I carried a Slime 70005 Safety Spair 7-Minute Flat Tire Repair System kit.

I've no experience with RF's, my yet to be received X3 will be a first for me. I do however have experience with Michelin Primacy MXM4 Tires. Installed a set on my 2005 Acura last year. I'm impressed with handling and what seems to be an improvement in fuel economy. There's 20,000 km's on the tires with no signs of wear yet. The same couldn't be said for the Goodyear's that the Michelin's replaced. Those tires had to be replaced at just over 45,000 km's. Terrible for a tire rated at 80,000 km's. I've been told that 2005 Acura TL's have a habit of chewing through tires. Something to do with their sport suspension. Funny that, as the dealer figures there's another two, maybe three years life on the 10 year old snow tires. If that holds true then those tires will have seen 100,000 km's of travel.

Just wondering, how much air do you put in for the non-runflat tires?
Some people say use the same pressure, but I feel tires are bit soft and underinflated if i go with the 32F, 36R stock pressure. |

They are softer because of the difference in technology giving stiffer sidewalls for RF, but the tyre (tire) pressure will be the same.

Same boat as others, it is time to replace the tires that came on '13 X3 2.8 M sport which are 245/45/19 OEM LS2 @ 29K miles. After much been going back and forth have decided to stick w/ RFTs as take some long trips and spouse uses the vehicle.
So I'm down to Pirelli P7 AS and Michelin Primacy MXM4 ZP? Probably going to use my local Discount Tire as BMW dealers do not seem interested in getting tires from Tire Rack to install. Since it has been some months since the last comments in this thread any updates, comments, recommendations? |

bikemanx3 you live in Dallas TX, you should get Michelin Pilot A/S 3 or some Hankook or COnti's more Summer weather oriented tires unless you will be in Winter areas. As for me, DWS doing its job and will be replaced when its needed with the new DWS06.

Keep going around in circles on the replacements, and need to do this soon as have upcoming road trips. Michelin Pilot AS seem to be overkill and reviews on tread life are not that positive.
MXM4 ZP still in mix, added Bridgestone RE960AS RF to pool, but then this is Grand Touring AS versus UHP AS or different specs. Snow is occasion problem and usually choose to WFH when that happens. Eliminated Pirelli P7s due to some feedback on repair or lack of. Any other RFs I should consider? |

Probably more aggressive than needed for US, early driving years in Germany raced some too, but not overlay. Do not go blowing off the line but will pass at will.

Currently equipped are the factory 18's with P7's, and I plan to put dedicated snows on those wheels. I don't want a max performance summer tire, and haven't picked out wheels yet, so I'm trying to decide between: 18" or 19"; MXM4 ZP and RE960AS RF; uniform or staggered (if 19's). On long highway drives, I love the cushy ride of the 18" factory setup, but I still want to throw it around like my old 3-series. Where to strike that balance? I genuinely look forward to your road trip report! Last edited by PULVER; 07-29-2015 at 06:23 PM.. |

I am in the same boat, am considering making an offer on a 2011 x3 3.5i with 19 inch wheels which needs new tires. Just started looking at rft tires, holy cr*p are they expensive! Looks like most like the michelin and bridgestone for all season. Our car will go up to the mtns so it will see some winter weather, so only all season for me. Not a lot of choices...
As far as non rft tires go, we have used the dws on a few of our cars over the years and have been very happy with them. Good blend of performance and value...we have used them on a jetta 2.0t, my wife's audi a4 avant, and my 2011 m3.
