F25 Insurance UK?
Finally joined the club and put a deposit down on an Alpine White '63 plate 30d M-sport with a few options (Pro nav, pano roof, HUD, 19's) and wondering who people in the UK use insurance wise that offer proper cover on options as my current car is with Admiral and they cover something like £500!
Thanks Simon |

Go to the site below and put in your VIN and list the options your car came with and save the file and print out if you can.
http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html Now try Liverpool & Victoria and see what the cost is. http://www.lv.com/contact-us/insurance/car I pay £283 with fully protected 77.5% discount.

Did a quick quote online whilst at work. No option to specify options. Do you have yours listed on your policy as mine are approx £10k over the base price?

Have you tried calling them as a lot of insurance companies don't class factory fitted options as after fit options and therefore it's not necessary to list them.

I've had problems with Admiral in the past. They wanted to charge me £20 per year because I had a sunroof, all my other options had a cost too, a high cost. It's their way to bulk up the cost of your insurance. Of course options can impact repair costs but not by much. I use Aviva, all they wanted was the value of the vehicle, not a list of manufacturer fitted options.

My concern is not listing the options but ensuring that for a write off, stolen vehicle etc that I get a like for like replacement (or the value of) not just the base spec car. I am going to seriously look at GAP insurance for this purpose. Will also try a quote from BMW Ins as they must understand that very few have no options.

The estimated value you put down has no bearing on what they will pay out under a claim. They will look at market value but do you trust them to properly value a similar optioned car - how can they if they have no idea what options your car had. |

Here is what I did and always do with new cars..
When I purchased my new in 2012 F31 320d Sport with many options (£35K), I took out GAP insurance at the time for 4 more years to run concurrently after the first year of my new Liverpool & Victoria policy. This was because my insurance company would pay the full invoice price in the first year. Then the GAP insurance (see link below) covered the the return to invoice (or higher value of a new car with all options) for the following 4 years. This gives 5 years total coverage. https://gapinsurance123.co.uk/ I sold the F31 320d after 2 years and bought my 11 month old (63 plate) X3 xDrive30d M Sport(fully loaded ex BMW Management car) for £36K. I rang GAP Insurance and they transferred the policy across to to this X3. So the X3 is now covered up to the cost of the original invoice for the 320d of £35K for a further 3 years. This the best way to cover all your options at a sensible price. The enhanced policy needs to be specified. I paid £234 for the 4 years. Do NOT try to cut the corners on this policy by reducing the costs. You need the best one that is transferable to the next car.

No. I keep the list with my car documents should I need to discuss any claim.

1. DONT use any company that asks if you have done a speed awareness course.
2. Try BMW's own, we do and is compares well with others. 3. We also took GAP as it was £300 for 3 years cover! 4. Never been asked what extras are fitted, only a value.

Options only have limited 2nd hand value so that's where the debate will be even if they are specified in detail.

I am pretty sure I read that when an insurance company ask you the value of your car it has no bearing on the policy price or what they will pay out. Its actually them getting a baseline of what customers believe their cars of worth which goes toward their market rates for each model.

So the best way to cover yourself if you buy a new or used AUC car is to get GAP insurance to cover the return to invoice cost. That way is a no brainer and means I am covered for a total of 5 years for full price. After 5 years sell and get another one and get the best policy from Gapinsurance123. The best £234 ever spent over 4 or 5 years.

Looks like we have very similar specs. Heated front and rear seats and steering wheel. Adaptive Xenons with High Beam Assist (HMA) etc, etc.

Yes although I only have heated front seats and no heated wheel. Would have liked the latter and powered bootlid but very hard to find a used X3 with exact spec especially 3.0l white m-sports. This one is very low miles and immaculate and was priced well so went for it. I thought X3 were low depreciators but this was £14k less than it was bought for 14 months ago. I guess most of that is options which you always lose money on.
