Air Bag Defect
According to an article in today's NYT there is a defect in air bags made by Takata. It appears this affects models produced by Toyota and Honda but the article also mentions that this may affect other manufacturers, including BMW. I just purchased a new X3 in August and am looking to see if there is any information about whether the article is accurate regarding BMW and, if so, which models are affected. Link to the article below:

Our 2011 X3 35i just got an airbag recall notice in the mail. Actually have the VANOS apt next Tuesday so I'll get airbag recall details then. Might just be a coincidence, who knows.

3/24/2011 build date.
Pic below shows the recall card we received. I also find it odd that with all the publicity and 'up to date' lists there is no mention of any F25 associated with the recall. It's possible this is completely unrelated. |

On follow up, no air bag recall for our 2011 X3. Took it in this morning and the adviser said they were printing the air bag recall on all recall notices so all customers would call in and ask if it's applicable.
Seems very odd to me but that's the scoop. |
