'15 X3d or '14 328d
I'm going for a diesel for sure. Which vehicle is the struggle.
Each has its strength and weaknesses along with its outer beauty and inner beast :-) X3d build - Melbourne Red over Ivory White Nevada Leather w/ red contrast stitching / loaded / plan to order http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...tionId=5392104 328d build - Estoril Blue over Coral red / loaded of course if I don't find one in stock, as I actually have a dealer looking, but I may have to opt for black interior or go for a 2015 and the longer wait time vs the X3 http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...tionId=5380000 Great lease deal from dealer for the 328d (I believe) I just thought I'd share my car crossroads

Depends what you want to do with the vehicle and what you'd be most comfortable driving. We're trading our 2014 328d Sports Wagon for a 2015 X3 28d. Love the diesel -- that's why we're getting another one. Just under 12,000 miles and getting 39.2 mpg overall (40% city, 60% highway). The Sports Wagon is a great vehicle, but it wasn't the right choice for us. We sat low, so visibility wasn't great (my wife & I are both short). Also, we hike and fish and weren't comfortable taking the 328 on some of the gravel roads in the area. The dealer let us take an X3 out for a day and we immediately felt more comfortable with the upright seating and the X3 great on all the gravel back roads. So it's whatever you like best: low, sporty, mostly on road or high, upright, and more off-road capable.

Thanks for feedback. Lease rate residuals are much lower for the X3. Wow so quick to move to a new model the loss $$ you must really not like the 328.

The dealer is being very good to us. Invoice for the new X3 and a very good price on the trade in. Other than sales tax, registration, and dealer paperwork fees it's close to a wash (although the X3 is less expensive). I'm hesitant to say we "didn't like" the 328 -- I smile every time I look at it. I suspect if we'd known the X3 was coming out with a diesel in '15 we would have waited. I've attached pictures of our current ride and the new X3 we've ordered. My wife parked next to an X3 the other day and took a picture; you can really see the height difference.

X3 cargo space with the seats up is considerably larger. The space is slightly larger front to back and side to side, but is considerable deeper (top to bottom). Official figures are 17.5 cubic feet for the Sports Wagon and 27.6 cubic feet for the X3. One Sports Wagon feature we'll miss is the ability to open just the hatch window. It's convenient when you just want to grab something out of the back.

I'm really interested to see what real life mpg is on this SAV. If it could get 40mpg highway regularly, this could be my next family car. I was disappointed when I saw the EPA ratings, but of course, real life driving is always totally different. |

We too we're disappointed with the EPA rating on the X3, but are expecting to get better mpg. EPA combined for the wagon is 35 and we're getting 39.2 for close to 12,000 miles. I looked at European equivalent "EPA" figures and mpg was higher than US figures for the same engine in US gallons/mile (don't remember at the moment what the numbers were). We're expecting to see about 2 mpg combined/5 mpg highway less than our wagon is getting, which would be the same penalty between the 328i gas wagon and 28i X3. |

No worries on the thread jacking.
I'm still torn. I'm driving a LR4 so I'm used to being up with plenty of room. When I was in Germany a few years back I rented Audi A6 Avant diesel (of course) several times and I really enjoyed driving the wagon. I've been looking local to find a X3d to test drive but nothing avail. Given the poor residual of the X I would probably buy vs lease if I go that route and PDC for sure. LEDs look great on it tho and I wonder why BMW hasn't moved the B&O sound system into either model. Audi has it. Sounds excellent and it's a diesel.
