Tire pressure warning in snow?
Anyone get the tire pressure warning when driving in heavy snow?
I got it today and chalked it up to the sensors acting wonky in the snow. Haven't checked the actual pressures since, but visibly fine. |

Canada uses an indirect TPMS system, which measures differences in wheel rotation speed. Please do check the pressure on all 4 tires. There may be other reasons for differences in wheel rotation speed, but tire pressure is the most obvious.

This happened to me also. This is pretty common in the winter. You can google low tire pressure in cold weather....there's a lot written about it.
Basically I'd recommend testing your tire pressure. I bet one tire is a bit low. When the temps drop, so does the pressure in your tire. If it dips below the TPMS threshold, you will get that alarm. I think they recommend 32 PSI for my tires, so whatever the threshold is (let's say 28 PSI), if it dips below 28, I'll get an alarm. Mine actually told me which tire it was. Once I added air to it, the alarm cleared. |

So every time you get a warning in your car, you blame the sensor?

Since he is in Canada it doesn't have an actual pressure sensor, it uses the ABS sensors to determine low pressure by a difference in rotational speed. It possible that when driving in heavy snow you are getting snow build up on one of your tires making the outside circumference a little larger which would throw off the speed sensor.

I had this when I picked up my car. It had 16k and was sitting inside dealership for a few days
Came on after driving for 10 mins. Went back to dealership and the rest sensors. Been fine since. |

Checked the pressures, was 2psi lower in one but still within proper levels. So i topped it up and had to reset the warning myself. |
