X1 review - "Save your pennies for the slightly larger X3 if you need a BMW X-over"
This review published today in Autoweek on an X1 xdrive 28i says either get the competition (it lists Mazda and Subaru based on price) or save up for an X3.
"Save your pennies for the slightly larger X3 if you need a BMW crossover. That particular vehicle stumbled in its early iterations but has since grown into a fun, attractive and nicely trimmed family car. Granted, it's tough to find one for less than $45K, but at least you'll begin to feel as though you got what you paid for." I should add that part of complaints in this review is that their X1 tester was under-equipped and felt cheap. Read more: http://www.autoweek.com/article/2013...#ixzz2nH6VDtIW

I got an X1 loner when I had my oil changed. I would never buy one. Everything was 'cheaper' from drive, controls, etc. I know thats how they price it lower, but I mean it was a huge step down from the X3. Better off with a Forrester.

The difference between an X1 and similar spec'd X3 is about 10% - so the X3 becomes an easy choice then.... The base model X1s are basic!

The only x1 I would buy would be a base model, they are a bargain.
When you start to load them up, it gets ridiculous. It turned out I could pay 49k for an x1 with the options I wanted, or get the same x3 for $5k more, with way better materials, much more standard, etc. No brainer. An x1 is not a 50k car. Things like the manual handbrake, exposed light bulbs in the interior, etc...just felt cheap. |

We have both a X3 35i M Sport and X1 sDrive 28i. The X1 is the base model with every package plus HK. I live in Houston and don't need X drive. X1 MSRP was $12k cheaper than the X3. Has plenty of power and is a great commuter car. Yes it has lower grade interior materials but it drives great.
