I personally think anything less than a 5 series has a crap interior as of late with the F chassis
Then the problem with the 5 series and above is the steering Just go X5 it's what they want And on the Audi perspective go take a look at a few year old Qx... Faded plastic, wrinkled leather, broken pieces, rattles... Looks are subjective, feel is perspective, performance is objective and intuition is retrospective |

The entire lineup looks identically nice-not-amazing on the inside, identically beautiful bimmer (within constraints of each body style -- GT vehicles, woof) on the outside. It had all been massively homogenized. Some call it lazy, others call it cohesive. It is what it is. You know what you're getting with a modern BMW.

I agree with you on F chassis interiors. Just yesterday I was at the dealership checking out the F32. Then I had a F10 as a loaner. The F10 interior is far better than that cheap shit found in F30, F32. Sure the F3x dash design is sharp and good looking (if you like an iPad stuck in your dash) but feel and finish are just plastic and cheap. For Example: The E92 has center console all the way back connecting the back seats. The F32 does not. The E92 has door pockets that slide out for access/storage complete with felt lined area for coin tray, the F32 has a cup holder here. The front center console in E92 is soft touch, and has wood top. The F32 is plastic with fake leather texture finish and topped with more cheap plastic... The design looks nice, but the finish feels cheap. You can tell BMW is cutting details like these to maximize profits. --- For this F26 X4, I like the dash. Looks upscale and well executed. For those of you that do not like it...What would you change? Last edited by UKBasketball; 10-01-2013 at 07:46 AM.. |

Having said that, the F25 interiour looks cheap and not very stylish imo. I think the Q5 looks crap as well though, having a zillion buttons doesn't make it look techy, but tachy But the F25 interiour is boring and simple, and not in a good way, i hoped the X4 which is supposedly a more premium solution, could benefit from a LCI interiour, but it looks boring as hell, as the F25 is. Which is imo, the worst part of the F25 and it's older generation E83, it was also pretty cheap looking imo. The E70 is so much more premium and stylish than the F25 and not the X4, what a shame imo.

Interior looks worse than it is because the wood is all covered up in the test vehicle. The last photo with the full X3 interior looks nice. I like the integrated iDrive screen as well, although I don't necessarily dislike the protruding iPad version, just depends on the execution. Had an F30 loaner without nav and the iPad thing looked pretty tacky. I agree with others as a previous owner of an E36 and an E46, something feels wrong with the F30 interior; I see the same in modern C-Class also so I think it's just overall cost cutting and par for the course these days. However on the 6-series the protruding screen looks much nicer, not cheapo plastic, and with standard nav it's wider and therefore better proportioned. The new X5 version looks good, too. Anyway you can see they are paving the way for the LCI of the X4 which will probably get the updated interior. Likely this project was too late in the development cycle to warrant putting in the new interior. I think this X4 may be the last BMW we see introduced with an integrated iDrive screen. |

I have seen the Evoque with the standard interior. It is at the level of a Toyota Yaris without the Full Leather option. |

I didn't know that it didn't come without full leather interior. The evoques here come with pretty much every option standard. |

Exactly.
What gets me the wrong way is that here we have a 4-Series without any upscale interior bits over the 3-Series. Especially the full center console all the way to the back seats of the E92. That was the major difference that set the E92 apart from the E90 interior, IMO. No more. Quote:

Not in the USA. It is quite a sad interior without that option.

This will only kill their X3 marketshare...no real incentive to choose between the two...with everything looking the same (except the exterior), what would be the incentive for buyers choosing between the two, especially X3??!!!
And by the time the all new X6 (2015 I believe) comes out, it will start eating up X4's marketshare!!! Someone needs to have a word with BMW's Marketing team... this is a real disappointment... |

The reason to go X3 over X4 is the same as X5 over X6 - more practical and more cargo room. I prefer the coupe variants because they look more aggressive, and I don't care about the cargo room or practicality that much.
So I would do X6 over X5 and X4 over X3, but many don't - lots of people hate on the X6, especially the X5 crowd I suspect there'll be a similar divide with the X4/X3 crowd. |

BMW is doing this because they only live if they increase market share, and putting a BMW into the garage of people who didn't already own one because there wasn't a model they liked is part and parcel to the plan. I don't see any downside for them to create as many models as their design and manufacturing approach will support.

This cupholder treatment also creates an awkward gap in the dashboard flow from the control cluster to the center console, which is one of the substantial problems with the F30's interior aesthetic in my opinion. The X3/X4 has a little more room to work with (as does the F10), so they avoid this issue. The cupholders in the E90 and E60, although really stupid overall, avoided this issue by extending from inside the dash itself - one of the reasons why the interiors of those two cars could be as similar as they were, despite size differences.

In my reply, I just said that the information provided by this poster is wrong "this time". Nothing more nothing less. Maybe it was true at the time this person posted. But obviously it didn't come to fruition.

Some may say it is cost cutting , but it actually allows extended budget for the engineering in order to make the car more dynamic than the X3. The X4 is coming at the best possible time. The premium SUV market in the compact and entry segments are growing and the X4 is a downsized model of the larger BMW X6 offering customers X6 style and purpose but in a new segment and lower cost. The X4 is significant because it will be a license to print money, the only other manufacturer with a competitor is Porsche and the upcoming Macan and once again our main competitors are far behind. And FYI. The X3 does not have a poor quality interior those that say that lead me to believe that they have never sat in one.

Terrible interior if it's simply carried over from the X3. Not very upscale and it's competitor the Evoque will be far far more luxurious. I was keen but this would be a show stopper
