Re: drone
Yes, it does drone at highways speeds but only in Normal mode or 8th gear...in Sport mode there is no drone that I notice. Easily reversible if you don't like it. I do like this mod as the startup sound is more aggressive.

If we had dual exhaust (one pipe on each side) it may sound better as it did on my 335i.

UPDATE - unclipping does nothing. I noticed only 1 pipe getting black so I went under there and the arm was totally closed. You can open it with your fingers and here the difference and feel the exhaust coming out of the left pipe now. So, how do I make it stay open? Anyone???

Got it solved. On the connector in the trunk, remove the 2 vac lines and tee them together. Doing this bypasses the valve the opens and closes the flapper. The engine vac will keep it open all the time.

I don't have the truck with me today but very simple. In the trunk panel where the clip was removed (first page of this post) there are 2 vac line on the solenoid that you unclip. Remove those 2 lines and use a vac line extender to "tee" them together so they are now 1 line.
How it works: Engine pulls vac with line going to solenoid. At the right RPM the solenoid opens basically connecting the line from the engine to the line to the exhaust and the flapper opens. So when you connect the 2 lines you are simply bypassing the solenoid keeping the flapper under vac and open

Then again if a dealership tried to bitch about that code for any reason id laugh in their face and drive to a different dealership. As for the "mod". Its a noticeable difference in noise. Not crazy though. Didnt notice any drone when I did it either. Plan on doing a catless down pipe and open valve sometime soon though. This is what my N55 135i sounds like with AR catless and stock everything else.

I made a before/after video of the golf tee mod. It absolutely does something. You can see the cardboard flapping like crazy on both pipes after the mod. This is on my 135i, not the X3.

Golf tee mod done
My first try here on the forum:
1. Dismount solenoid and disconnect it from electrical connection. 2. Disconnect hose to exhaust valve from the solenoid. 3. Disconnect vacuum income hose from plastic vacuum tubing leading to the engine. This connection located about 100 mm out of solenoid down. 4. As for now we have male plastic connector so as female rubber hose one 5. Let's join them and have vacuum circuit ready. 6. Mount solenoid with 100 mm empty hose back to the mount and connect it to the electrical connector to have no errors. P.S. BUT after I did that I noticed that my left exhaust tube keep silence always By the end I confirm that default position of the valve on my X3 is OPEN. So in my case easy mod with disconnecting of the electrical connector from the solenoid works good. Let's keep above instruction for the X5 guys who have default closed valve position ...
