Key memory problems
Yes, I've already read other threads about this but I didn't see any consensus. Here's the setup:
1. A driver with one key has her seat and mirror settings. The idrive is set to recall those settings 2. The car is left unlocked for about 8 hours 3. A driver with a different key (and profile) opens the door We expected the seat and mirror settings to be recalled from the key memory. But instead we find this happens only occasionally - most of the time the settings are not recalled. But what's really annoying is that after starting the car, the profile of the correct key is shown - even though the seat and mirror setting were not recalled! We're thinking maybe the car has gone into a deep sleep mode and is no longer listening for approaching keys? Does anyone else have problems like this? |

It doesn't recall from the 1-2 memory presets, it recalls the LAST position for that profile, i.e. the last seat and mirror position the profile was in when you switched off regardless of any 1-2 saved positions. What you may be doing (unless you have a fault) is correcting the wrong profile.
Get both keys in the car and test by switching off ignition and using a key to unlock (no need to get out of the car or lock). This will switch to the profile of the key you unlocked with

It's been my impression that locking the car with the fob is what triggers remembering those settings for that key. Unlocking is what recalls those settings associated with that one key. So, when you lock the car, your're telling the car, "hey, the way things are set now, remember these settings and link to this key". Unlocking means, "recall the settings last saved by this key and recall them (including adjusting seat, mirrors, radio, temp, etc.)".
The simple act of getting in the car without unlocking means the system has no way to safely engage the new settings (seat movements in particular).

I've set memory 1 for my wife and Memory 2 for myself. If we hold down either button on the side of the Driver's Seat the stored setting will reset.
However, my 7 year old Acura RL will automatically set the correct memory with the key fob that corresponds to it when unlocking the door. No manual operation of holding down the correct memory button required. Does the X3 not work this way? Do I need to program something differently? Thanks in advance to your responses!

I think the car being left for 8 hours may be the problem.
We use our keys and regularly swap around drivers. There is no need to log the doors just unlock using the key whose profile you want to change too. Yes locking the doors does "save" the profile to the respective key.
