Installed E-sys s/w (3.18.4) and psdzdata files (48.3) (thanks shawnsheridan !) on WinXP/SP3 laptop. Ignition on, cable connected (thanks April1 !) and I waited until NIC acquired 169.254.xxx.xxx (APIPA) address. ZGW_SEARCH.exe throws pop-up error with banner UDP_Peer and text /!\ Run-time error '126':. After several attempts with same result, I launched E-Sys, waited until it wrote log file, clicked connect button, selected target vehicle 'F25...' and was able to connect and could see that it showed the VIN (so there must be communication). I didn't go any further, since I just wanted to check the cable/connection. Curious why ZGW_SEARCH.exe will not run and if it indicates a problem that might show later during actual coding.
Note: I did not use automated setup but instead installed manually according to: E-Sys - Installation Instructions - v.2.txt Did I need to do something to EDIABAS.ini file, or something else? UPDATE: Reload of OS and manual install of E-sys solved run-time error.

does the 510 resistor specified in the cable diagram needs to be /exact/ ? I do a lot of electronics, and I can find 480 easily in my parts boxes, but no sign if 510 (or 560 even wich is more bizarre)
What about the 1/4w rating? I was thinking of adding a 480 0805 between the pins....

If you are making just one cable, you can use combination of two series resistors like 330 + 180 or whatever combination you have. Value within 5% should be good enough. You need at least 0.5 W for reliable operations.
As I build cables regularly, I have a ready stock of 510 R |

Just tried to install software as described in the first post. I'm getting the following error:
File EDIABAS.INI does not exist. Please Check I have the correct files in the BMWInstall folder. What am I doing wrong? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate. |

I have done that and I've checked my folder structure against your screenshot and they match. I got round the first error message by running as Administrator. However now it says:
Folder E-Sys_3.18.4\E-sys does not exist. Please check... What's causing this? |

Your folder structure is not right. Look at the diagrams carefully. You got to organize ESys and psdz data correctly for batch file to work else go for manual installation procedure.

Ive been coding a BMW X3 F25 and trying to get the TPMS to show pressure and temperature.
I have set HU_CIC 3001 EXBOX RDC_SAFETY aktiv / Werte=01 But the display only show the oC and bar text with no figures. I have read this may start working in time but after driving for 45 minutes today nothing changed. Is there something else that needs to be done for this to work or is it just more time driving needed? Thanks James |

See this thread (and post from shawnsheridan) and check if you have the correct option:

Checked that link and looks like I don't have the RDC type of TPMS fitted in mine. bmwvin didnt show it listed anyway. I'll leave it enabled and see if it decides to start working, if not turn it off and wish I had it Thanks for the tip. |

Is there any definitive answer as to whether or not making coding tweaks (e.g. to display tyre pressures) would void the cars warranty?

Coding only changes the parametric values. Unless it can be proved that a particular setting has stressed the car beyond it limits, in my opinion it's safe to do it. Also these are reversible changes.
Displaying the tire pressures on the screen is just ok as BMW has already made provision for that. If one is changing the torque-speed characterics of the engine (I don't know how to do it), it may be of a concern. This question has been asked again and again and different people have responded with different opinions. You are the best judge for the coding changes and its effect on the car. |

New here, but would love to buy a cable April or Sean (I can't tell who's still selling them, but certainly want to support the folks making this information possible and keeping it current!). It's not that I don't trust myself with a soldering iron, or a resistor, or a crimp tool. It's that I don't trust myself when I have to do all three and plug the results into my $50k car. I'm also a little impatient and want to get to geeking on this stuff as soon as I can.
My address is davethenerd at that google mail thing that they've had for years. I suppose I also should request download links to the appropriate files that aren't entirely easy to find. Thanks, all, for everything you do here! |

Brilliant. Thank you! And my apologies for misspelling your name, Shawn. You'd think after reading through all 26 pages of this I wouldn't have made that mistake!

Which version of E-Sys do I really need?
Ok, I'm going to ask something here that may be a mistake. My apologies if it is. I have a 2011 X3 (F25) x35i that I want to code and have ordered a cable from April1.
Does it matter if I use E-Sys 3.18.4 v47.5 versus E-Sys 3.22.5? Do I need PSdZdata 49.1 (which I understand likely doesn't work with 3.18.4). I realize E-Sys 3.22.5 will (likely?) require the purchase of a token (perhaps the former does, too? I'm still downloading and am unclear on that because I haven't gone through the setup process). Obviously if paying for the token is part of this process then... so be it. But I just saw no reference to that anywhere in this long thread, so... again, maybe I'm asking a question publicly that shouldn't be asked. Mea culpa? Help? [Edit: I did just have the vehicle in for service yesterday due where they did a CAS software update for recall B61 38 12 if that matters]
