How long until your first brake maintenance?
My X3 is closing in on 40,000 miles and I have not needed any brake maintenance per the computer's estimate. It says I still have some 30k miles for front and about 13k miles for rears!
Are other people experiencing the same thing? |

X3 30d here. Currently around 15 months and 20.000 mls. Computer says front brakes can go another 43.000 mls, but the rear ones need maintenance in 3.500 mls.

I would hope to get at least twice as many miles on the brakes. You must stop a lot .

Brake squeal could have a number of causes but not necessarily worn brakes. One of my C300 rear brakes was unusually loud at only perhaps 5K mi. There was plently left on the pad. As a precaution, the dealer replaced brake pads and rotors on both rears under warranty and they were silent from that day forward to 40K+ miles, when I still had a lot of pad left on front and rear.

In fact I believe I've seen you around before. White M-Sport, yes? Whereabouts in Lincoln Park?

I forgot to say, first the MB tech replaced the pads. When he wasn't satisifed with the result, he didn't even ask me and changed the rotors too. It was done in one visit, so I didn't need to come back. I'm not saying that's your case but they should be able to correct it. I would not accept "it's normal".

Isn't it unusual for rear brakes to wear faster than the front ones? I thought the front brakes did most of the work. |

Performance control uses the rear brakes to help the car corner better... Sort of improves cornering on the cheap.
