1). Am I right in assuming I can connect the phone via bluetooth to make and receive calls? Yep! 2). At the same time can I connect the phone via USB to play songs on the phone, get the song list displayed on the car display and listen to them through the car speakers? No not through USB. You can play songs on the phone via bluetooth as well. However, at least for my phone - it does not show the song list on the display nor can I browse. I can only go one track forward or backward. I think it depends on what your phone supports over bluetooth. I think you can only play music via USB with the iPhone. 3). Will the phone be charging when I connect via USB? Yes! Hope some of this was remotely helpful. |

Android-based phones are still using an older bluetooth implementation that doesn't support the right version of AVRCP (I believe 1.3 or 1.4 is required for track info). Last rumor I found said that Google should resolve this in v4.0.3, but that's just conjecture. If you're running 2.2.x or 2.3.x, you're stuck with the simple forward/back controls that JSY mentioned. I decided music over bluetooth wasn't important enough to switch to an iPhone, so I purchased a super-mini USB drive that has all my music on it, permanently connected to the USB port. Helps with the battery life too, when I forget to plug in the phone at least. If you want the uber-technical explanation, it's been discussed before (hopefully, its not one of Lotus7 deleted posts). |

Thanks
Cheers JSY and roundtree, that is indeed very useful information.
In the UK, we get the ICS upgrade on Android in the next week or so and maybe with 4.0, I might get to sync my phone a bit better. However, as you say worse come to worse, I will buy a cheapish USB stick to store and play back my music. |

Hey JSY, that's great news! So glad everything is working for you now! ICS is due for my SGSII within the next couple of weeks, so looking forward to getting the "stalling" issue resolved as well.
Thanks for the update. Dave

This is the nearest thread I could find to pose my question (apologies in advance if not precisely on target).
Will the new android phones, specifically the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim, synch up with my X3, born 10/11 prior to 6NR? We are about to go for that phone, and right now I have no idea of its functionality with my ultimate driving (maybe communicating) machine. Thanks to everybody, sam |

Rather than start a new "Android" thread I thought I would add to an existing one to ask a question. I checked the BMWUSA site and the following phones are not listed.
Does anyone have either Motorola RAZR M or HTC Incredible 2 LTE and if so, how well does it integrate with the X3? I'm ordering BMW Apps option, if that makes any difference.

I have razr maxx, got a x35 last year. phone integrates well for calling. wish it would read text back to me. i was hoping that there would be some sort of firmware upgrade to bmw (not mot) that would offer better integration...

So the Bluetooth MAP (Message Access Profile) doesn't do anything? I think I've seen mention of updates but that might have been on bmw.com and not bmwusa.com.

You may want to re-read some of these threads. MAP is NOT a BMW thing. It's the responsibility of the carrier or manufacturer (whichever), to supply this as part of the OS in the phone. BMW has absolutely nothing to do with addressing phones that do not have MAP.
Find out if your phone is due for a firmware update and perhaps MAP will be there. Then you should be able to get texts/emails in the car. . Dave

I have the original droid razr and I've got a problem with the phone charging when plugged into the cars USB ports. It just constantly connects and disconnects every few seconds and won't charge the phone. I checked the USB debugging function but that seemed to be set correctly. Anyone else have a similar problem?

I thought it also provided some level of Android integration not possible without it. If not, I guess I wasted $250.

Wish they'd sort out the XML for nested quotes on this app...

I've got an iPhone 5 and a Droid DNA so I can compare some of the differences. Here are my observations:
- BMW Apps are for iPhone only. If you don't even plan on having an iPhone then there's no reason to get it. Might be nice for resale I guess, it's super cheap all things considered. - Bluetooth calls work well on both phones. Both sync up the address book very well. Call quality on both is about the same, both very good. The Android phone shows contact images on the iDrive screen while talking, the iPhone doesn't. - Messages on bluetooth work the same on both as well. Emails don't show up for me on either device, only SMS. - I haven't tried Bluetooth audio on the Android phone, but I think there's info about that in the thread already. The iPhone Bluetooth audio I have used and it works well, and shows album/artist data in the iDrive. - USB Audio works on the iPhone of course, but not with the Android phone. The USB Audio just assumes the phone is an iPod. I do believe the USB plug will charge the Android phone, but with mine specifically it would charge so slow that I haven't bothered to try. |
