RTTI not updating
For about four days now, it seems that the Real Time Traffic Info on my X3 nav system isn't updating. Previously, I've been surprised with just how accurate it is with predicting a traffic jam, but recently, I haven't received one traffic update even when I'm sitting in heavy New York City traffic. When I go to "Traffic Info" there are updates, but never any for my route (greyed out) and it's likely that these are stale from a few days ago. Not sure if it's a problem with the service or my vehicle in particular, so I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this problem. Like I said, I'm based in the North East US (New York Area).

(disclaimer: only guessing, no first hand knowledge) Sat in San Diego traffic the other day and the only information it gave me was for Los Angeles. Going to the dealer on Thursday. Will bring it up. Last edited by Radioactive; 05-14-2012 at 12:23 PM.. |

"I am stuck in traffic and it is not displayed on my RTTI equipped BMW or my BMW indicates a traffic incident at my current location and there is none. Why? Assuming RTTI is functioning properly in your vehicle; incidents reported to your BMW are gathered and processed by the RTTI service provider from many sources (refer to the third question above). Under normal circumstances, it may take several minutes for changing traffic conditions to be correctly reported and displayed in your BMW. In rare occasions, events may be inappropriately coded or may be displayed when not necessary. If this condition re-occurs on specific roads and times, please report this information to BMW Customer Relations at 800-831-1117 so that BMW can take corrective measures." |

I was not receiving traffic on the NAV today in Southern California. This is the first time that I've noticed this since I bought the car in October. I haven't looked for traffic on the NAV for the past few days as I have a short commute to work, but I used the NAV after work today and noticed no traffic. FYI, I got the software update about 4 weeks ago, probably not related, but thought I'd throw that out there just in case it may be related.

I don't have the software update, so the issue probably isn't related.
Yesterday, I was stuck in traffic again (without a Nav system warning) and called BMW Customer Relations through the X3's menu. The agent said that other people were experiencing the same problem, and they suspect that it's a service issue. There was no estimate as to when it will be up and running again. |

We are aware that customers were experiencing limited Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) in their navigation system, and the service issue has been resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and thank you for choosing BMW.

Traffic info not updating
Just recently bought a BMW and live in Atlanta GA. Terrible traffic problems here. I had a Cadillac CTS before that ALWAYS showed traffic patterns and problems quickly and accurately. My new BMW promised such a system but does NOT deliver. After only one month, I am thinking I made a mistake and need to get rid of the BMW. Even my daughters cheap VW has accurate traffic info on the GPS. After reading all the posts, it seems buying another brand is the only solution. Is there a fix or upgrade I don't know about? I am very disappointed. It is not the Ultimate Driving Machine. It is the Ultimate Stuck in Traffic Machine because of this defect.

I have noticed far fewer alerts in the last 2 weeks in Charlotte. Something must be going on with the broadcasts.

I hope BMWNA is reading this again. I've had issues in Houston for about 2 weeks with both of our BMWs. Some info us accurate but other congestion is missing.

On my 2012 X3, the map always shows traffic, etc through the red and yellow markings on the screen. Only once did the system surprise me by actually instructing me by voice that it was sending me by a different route
because there was traffic ahead. I have never experienced that again. It was while driving on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn, NY. I have no idea what made the NAV instruct me. It has never done that where I live in NJ and I have been through many traffic jams. My 2013 MB E350 Cab does it all the time when I am using the NAV but I pay for Sirrius traffic in that car. It tells me on the fly that there is traffic ahead, what speed it is moving and depending on the situation, do I want to use a specific route that it recommends. That's fantastic. I wish I knew what made the X3 perform like the MB that one time. I must clarify that the colored markings are always showing on the BMW if there is traffic and that the voice instruction on the BMW happened when I was using the NAV for direction.
