nice surprises in your X3
What nifty things did you learn about your X3 AFTER you got it?
Sure most of us had an extended wait time from order to delivery so most of us did a fair bit of reading (both in the forum and the digital owner's manual). So... I thought I'd start this thread about the neat features you've found. Other potential buyers may find this thread a quick reference guide of the features too. I'll start off with one item (possible two): 1. Comfort access - when touching the driver's door handle only the driver's door unlocked. When touching the front passenger door handle all doors unlocked. (note to self... let wife grab door handle first ) 2. Park Distance Control - I was backing into a spot with a high curb of about 12" height. I don't know if my tires hit the curb but the car abruptly stopped. When I walked behind the car I don't think the tires could have hit the curb but there were no marks on the bumper or muffler. Does PDC apply the brakes too? donno OK you guys are up... what have you found? |

As to your points:
1. Yes, but you can set it for other doors in iDrive. 2. AFAIK, the PDC cannot apply the brakes (otherwise I would not backed into a fence post some months back...).

The dipping passsenger mirror when selecting reverse is neat.
The auto dipping main beam is amazingly good (but ordered it) The 8 function buttons stored in your profile. The internal illuminations is neat too - at night. |

PDC wont stop for you but i've noticed that if you have the Autohold on and it will apply the brakes for you if you're going slow enough. That might be what's going on as you get closer to an object, you'll back up slower.

1. if you switch off the engine while in "D" (after complete stop) it will change to "P" automatically...
2. You don't have to press "Unlock" button in the shifter if you are shifting to drive after reverse... |

If you have the transmission in DS, and shut off the engine, the shifter will pop back to the right (in the US).

1. I was quite surprised to see the numerous compartments tucked away in the cargo area, i.e., tools, first aid, clamps for tying cargo materials to floor, etc.
2. The dimensions of the sun roof window and opening was something I didn't pay a lot of attention to early on. But now that spring/ summer is around the corner, it's quite impressive to see how large the sun roof area is 3. Finally, I equipped my X3 35i with M sport and DHP (decided against the Nav to avoid getting everything). My dealer recommended I go easy the first 1000 miles before engaging the Sport mode. Turned out to be great advice, becasue when I finally drove in Sport mode, I was literally BLOWN AWAY |

The premium audio is much better than expected (non of the test X3s had it). Put on some Bocelli on the way home from the dealer and was pleasantly surprised. Don't see any need to upgrade the premium system with aftermarket unless you're trying to go deaf.
On the downside I wonder why they dropped the ball on the electronic steering column which would adjust to the memory of the current driver like the seats and mirrors. Plus it would retract etc. to ease entering and leaving the vehicle. Everything else is electronic why not that

The little folding cargo box and black rear net were nice to find, as I thought these would have been optional accessories that wouldn't have come with the vehicle. The net is actually a bag too, which is useful.

The fold out shopping bag hook in the trunk. So simple but I use it to great effect all the time.
The hole to put the fuel cap in while you're refuelling to stop it dragging against the bodyword (Q5 had this too but it took me a year to realise )

+1 on the fully customizable preset buttons. One touch to call the wife and one touch to start guidance home.
I also love being able to send addresses directly to the car through Google Maps. |

I'm going to have to read up on the buttons.
Hmm, I just found if you press and hold the unlock button on the key fob the windows and moonroof will open. |
