F25 owners with Android phones
I know BMW uses the iphone as the standard for technology. Does it mean that people with Andriod phones have limited access to the technology?

More like not supported. Somethings may work, some things won't. I used to be able to dial from my contact list in the phone. Now, after the recent upgrade to the Android phone, I can't access that list. I can still, however, look at my received calls and placed calls lists and dial those through the Bluetooth connection.

I have a Symbian OS phone (Nokia X6) and I have contacts information, last calls, notes reader, calendar and bluetooth music. Not able to have internet connection via bluetooth tethering on this phone, but wife's Nokia N97 works a charm with everything (which is strange as I think it runs the same version of Symbian as the X6)...
You have a tool here: http://www.bmw.pt/pt/pt/owners/navig...check_tool.jsp And why do you say Apple is the standard? There is not one office function working with the Iphone... at least that's what they say on their page... let's drop this mania of Apple being around everywhere... I have an HTC Vivid which is an Android phone and have access to the whole phonebook on the phone as well. In terms of just making and receiving calls, etc - it seems to support it just like it supports my iPhone 4. But if you're talking about connecting it to the USB and being able to search through the music, that sort of stuff doesn't support Android.

I have a Samsung GII and everything works beautifully, including receiving emails & texts, plus phonebook access etc.

I have a droid 2 that has lots of issues - only 1 that affected my X3. My Droid2 is paired via bluetooth, works ok for phone and address book functions - also my text messages will go to the messages screen on the X3 - however when I had the bluetooth audio function enabled, my 16gb usb stick filled w/ music that i plug into my center console usb port would periodically die - i would have to unplug and replug it.
i noticed when this happened that the external devices list both the USB stick and the phone would dissapear. I turned off bluetooth audio, and now my USB stick is fine. i blame this fully on my droid which i am likely replacing w/ an iphone for non BMW related reasons.

You get emails and texts on the iDrive screenl with the GII?? Shoot.. My Vivid has Bluetooth 3.0 and I thought I would get it but it doesn't seem to do it on mine unless i'm doing something wrong. :-/ would love to get texts on the screen.

Looking at getting a X3, was lurking in these forums and stumbled across this thread.
From what I know, BMW uses QNX as the multicore operating system base (so do a bunch of other car makers). QNX is now a subsidiary of RIM (BlackBerry). Therefore, the system should probably support all different smartphones. iphone/ipod uses a non standard connector, and thus BMW makes people pay extra to get that extra connector. This also shows up in the options, thus making people think that it is somehow an Apple system. Other smartphones can simply use the standard connector. |

LG Optimus 2X with one glitch
I've had no issues with my G2X connecting via BT, though I've stopped using the Bluetooth audio option. At this point, I'm not aware of any Android phones that support the AVRCP profile. What this means is that, currently, I can go between tracks, but I get no track info of any kind. The only phone that supports AVRCP profile currently is iPhone 4S, at least that I know about. Anyone have a non-iPhone with AVRCP?
Personally, it's a non-issue, as I have a dedicated USB drive connected with much of my music present. |

Google your droid to see if it supports MAP. If it does, there's likely a setting on your droid that needs to be switched on. By default, this is shipped switched off for some reason. Dave

I've been active working with an iPhone, an iPad and my Android Thunderbolt with my new 335is. Isn't a big part of an Andorid solution missing in that there is no BMW Connected app other than than the iOS version? Therefore the ConnectDrive feature of the car never connects in order to perform Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, etc?
I've seen old online articles discussing a port "soon to be available" but so far nothing that I know of. |

I've only seen that it connects and brings the posts up for reading. I personally would not post myself especially hurtling down the expressway!
Even what does work with the iOS device doesn't match what the marketing hype would like you to believe though. At least not for me yet. http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...2-4f27160ea4e8 http://viad.tv/video-12856/bmw-3-rea...ezing-friends/ |

Thanks for the info Dave. I checked online and I couldn't find any reference that my phone had the MAP profile but then when I checked in the Bluetooth settings itself in the phone, I saw that under Advanced Settings, there is something called "Message Access" and under that was SMS and E-Mail and both were checked OFF. So, maybe it does support it. I'll know at rush hour.

Hey brilliant Joseph. I'll bet making that setting change will do the trick. Just send yourself a text and it should show up. Emails as well, although I've noticed a bit of "lag" receiving them to iDrive (might be a matter of course, based on mail servers e.g. where the mail comes from), whereas texting is controlled via the carrier directly.
Good luck. Hope it works! Dave

Hi there....actually RIM devices and the SGSII have the MAP already active at time of shipment, presumably. I say that because unlike JSY's device, there is no setting for MAP within the device's settings e.g. bluetooth etc. Samsung would have shipped the device with MAP pre-activated....so to speak.
Not sure about European hardware though. Dave EDIT: forgot to mention that Bluetooth audio works as well, but acts up from time to time e.g. lose connection, then connection returns. I'm going to investigate that one a bit further, although not critical for me, just would like to figure it out.
