Is be surprised if they brought the 20d. It's underpowered for the US
market. They can get away with the 4 pot N20 as it's performance figures are in line with the old 28i six. It might be a four but it feels like a six. The same cannot be said of the 20d. It's a great engine but it would underwhelm the average US BMW driver especially in a car like the X3. The 30/35d still have excellent economy figures to impress and the performance to match.

No timeframe has been disclosed for this yet to my knowledge, but there are similar rumors of the US getting an X1 diesel (a four cylinder in that case) at its launch later this year or soon after. So, it may be that the X3 will get the diesel option at that time as well. Or maybe we'll even get it sooner, at the start of MY2013 production - who knows. |

Although, you may be unaware that BMW actually has two higher output four cylinder diesel options at their disposal - a ~204hp "23d" (currently in X1 and E8x 1 series) and an about-to-be-announced ~215hp "25d", coming to the F2x 1 series. In theory, one of these might provide acceptable motivation for an X3 in the US. However, as I said above, the X3 is reported to be getting an I6, so its probably a moot point. Nevertheless, one of these two four cylinder options is rumored for the US X1 (and Mini Countryman); hopefully it ends up being the latter. |

In Norway we don't get the BMW Assist with data traffic at all. But I guess the SIM slot must be somewhere and if I could just insert my own SIM for data traffic.... |

Different engines. Similar displacements but 35d adds second smaller turbocharger and other improvements.

Oh, and I should add that I was incorrect about the ~215hp version of the I4 diesel debuting soon. The fact is that it is already being used in the 525d (perhaps not all versions of the 525d in all markets though - I am not sure). |

Is 8TH (speed limit info) something that could be retrofitted. I would be interested in adding it.
Or is it not an option that will be available in the United States? |

I am not interested in the new options, is there a link somewhere that explains the advantages of N20 over current engine? It's 2.0, so a bit better mileage like Q5? Anything else? Thanks. |

It's just a camera in the mirror reading not only speed limit signs, but also overtaking ban signs. Basically it could be able to read any sign, if the software was appropriate. The signs are showing up as symbols in the instrument panel, or in the HUD.

Those numbers won't be close to US numbers for city and hwy. I would guess 21 city and 28-29 hwy, can't imagine much more than a 10% improvement since we already had the 8 speed transmission. Kind of hard to compare it to anything BMW currently makes except maybe a 528X for all wheel drive but 528X would be lighter and definitely much more aero dynamic. I think the 528X is 23 city and 32 hwy.

They don't rate European mpg like the EPA does in the US so we are both right. The current X28 is 19 city 25 Hwy in the US.
