My family used to buy all of our cars strait up but then when we sat down with the accountant and worked the numbers out being a small business owner we figured we would save a substantial amount of money by leasing our cars. I could of traded in my last car worth $37k at trade in and paid in full that day for my new E90 along with getting cash back. But since it made more economic sense I put down $5k since you dont pay tax on the trade in value and got a check written to me for $32k and right now thats invested in a energy fund and my monthly payment on my car is $26X or $3,120 a year meaning that my investment has to make 10% a year to cover my yearly car payment. So essentially I am leasing a E90 for 27 months for only $5k well actually less since some of the cost is taken out because of business depreciation. You dont get wealthy by writing out checks and being foolish with your money, make your money work for you dont work for your money. |

Well on average a nurse makes about $25 an hour.
Most work overtime and lets say 50 hours a week. $1,250 a week. Times 51 weeks a year? $63,750. I know a few of the people who work under my dad make $50 an hour which is $127k a year, but then again you have to pay taxes and they work all night when no one else wants to. |

I should have been more clear--that is from EACH team.
And since I ride the pine, you wouldn't know me.

Brown noser! I'm only pulling down about 1,800,000 Quargots, and I do twice the work you do. Imperious Leader always did like you best.

i toil endlessly on a submarine to get paid money that was collected by taxation, yet only to pay taxes myself. what is the purpose of this thread? you wouldve been better off by asking people to scan their 1040's and post those.

The fact is that you are absolutely correct at a conceptual level. Financially it doesn't make sense to buy due mainly to tax advantages as a business owner. But people don't always do things based on what makes the most sense financially. I know over 100 millionares because of a club I'm in, all I'm saying is that you would be very surprised how many of them pay cash for cars simply because when you make, say 500.00/hour, would you want to spend your time negotiating small time car deals, or fight the big fights? Let alone spending dime making payments. Cash is easier and simple, that's why they do it. It's not a number crunching game for the super rich, it's a question of what battles do they want to spend their time fighting. This is only MY experienence. And I find it interesting, that's all. Not a big deal. |

I keep hoping that I can be one of those people here who say "my daddy bought me this car!" I'm 46 and he's 80 now ....
But the old bugger just keeps hanging on. Some day soon though, I'll have a 5 series!

And I know people who earn $150k plus a year and drive 10-year old hondas and toyotas. Performance/luxury cars is an addiction, so the income level does not play a major role here.
