What would you change on your X3?
Ok, so I am at roughly 5000kms driven, over about 3.5 months. I had an accident already and I've driven in traffic, in the country on windy roads, on dirt roads, and plenty of highway. So, the only thing I am missing is slush/snow/ice (winter driving). I'll post some things that could be changed to make this car even better, and some issues I am having with certain things. I'm looking for people to add on also, even if it's something small that bothers you like a piece of cheap plastic somewhere etc..
1> This is my first BMW, and I find sometimes when I brake, my foot comes too close to the gas pedal, never had that on my previous cars, (audi/porsche/mazda) 2> Front needs to be made stronger, after my first accident, I can't tell you how cheap the front part of our cars are, and how the brackets holding our lights are. I just had to replace 2 because the front of my hood pushed into them, it's retarded and I've never heard of that before. 3> Better brakes, they are ok, but there should be stronger ones on the x35i over the smaller engine. 4> Sometimes when I turn, my thumb gets caught on that little rubber thing sticking out on the steering wheel. Annoying, but could be in a better location. 5> While I love the look of the car, I could do without the black plastic going around the car, even without the M model, it would be nice to not have to pay to have that. 6> Lag , I doubt they'll fix this but, if they could this car would be in a class of its own, otherwise I guess I will look for an engine flash in a couple of years. Don't get me wrong, I love the car, but I was just throwing ideas around on how BMW could improve these models over the years. |

Only thing I wish it had was dual mufflers =D I haven't received my car yet though. I don't think the front end looks that good. I heard someone call it "cheeky" .. where the fog lights are, look like big cheeks .. and that kinda killed the front end for me.

Since finding out how crappy BMW paint is after a bird crapped on my space gray. I would change to Alpine White since white tends not to show imperfections as much as darker metallic colors. If that happened, then I would go with the chestnut interior, rather than the present black.

Install an automatic steering whell adjuster that is found on most other luxury cars- so I dont have to manually adjust the steering wheel each time I enter. Better radio- I paid for upgrade but falls short of my mark levinson in my previous lexus. Otherwise an awesome car!

Make the radio much easier to operate. It's way more complicated than it needs to be. Why not just be able to find a station and hold the radio memory button to set it like every other car radio on earth?

1. The plasticity of the soft-touch dash material is low grade; needs availability of nappa leather dashboard.
2. The door buckets need to be soft touch plastic like an X5. 3. Not enough interior wood. 4. Needs electrically operated steering column. 5. Back seats are sparsely adorned. 6. Needs availability of active ventilated multicontour seats (or at least perforated nappa leather). 7. Needs LED turn signals and brake lights and the option to have rear fog lights on. 8. The most referenced street in Chicago (n lake shore drive, where I live) is not in the nav. 9. Needs a comfort DDC mode. 10. Sunroof occasionally creaks over bumps. 11. Needs better paint protection. 12. Amber reflectors should be on the fender, not the headlamp housing. Last edited by xDrive35i; 10-21-2011 at 01:02 AM.. |

Basically I want the quality of an X5 in a smaller package, but that doesn't exist.
Dont get me wrong I do love the car, but you asked so off I went on my rant. |

Nope, the brake lights on the F25 X3 does not have the LED treatment, might get it on the LCI?
Also, the multi-contour seats, I have it on my '08 X3 and love it! Don't know why this isn't the option on the F25 X3, hopefully BMW will add that on later. |

More convenient location for the power tailgate and heated steering wheel buttons.
Comfort Seats. Steering wheel audio volume controls on the left side. (comparing to X5 on these) Both panels of sunroof to tilt open. (our pre X3 Mini Cooper had this, as does X5). Overall, these are relatively minor irritations, but changing them would improve the ergonomics. |
