What are these vents near the rear side window? And can I cover them?

I couldn't find in the manual what these vents are, but I was wondering if I should cover them up to prevent dog hair from going in (dog is placed in the trunk during travel). Any suggestions from dog owners that might be using as covers?

The vents are there to allow heat from the electronic components behind it to escape.

The amount of dog hair that would even make it in there is negligible, just leave it.
