2013 or 2014 ?
Hey folks, also asked this question on BimmerFest but wanted to see what others have to say here.
Trying to debate on a 2013 or 2014 X3, 2 of them are 28i and 1 is 35i. -2013 X3 28i (Only one with DHP) SOLD/GONE Red on Beige , 1300 miles (BMW Executive prior), $39,985 (before fees) (trying to negotiate) don't need to pay for shipping but its 1hour drive , has Convenience, Dynamic Handling Pkg, Premium, Technology, BMW Apps, Cold weather, M Sport, Premium Sound, Bmw assist = MSRP 54,700 start of warranty: 07/02/2012 -2014 X3 28i Red on Black, 10,104 miles | $43,272 = $42,500 (Negotiated) SOLD/GONE Cold Weather, Driver Assist, Xenons, M-Sport, Premium, Navigation, Premium Hi-fi, BMW Online/BMW Apps, Enhanced USB/Bluetooth Plus Smartphone integration = MSRP $53,650 start of warranty 12/04/2013 ..TX (Gotta pay for shipping to NYC) - 2014 35i, Red on Red, 11,347 miles .. | $43,995 (haven't negotiated yet) NO DHP Cold Weather, Driver Assistance, M Sport,Premium,Technology,Standard suspension,Storage package ,Xenon headlights Premium hi-fi system Out the door price of $47,721 (including fees and shipping) waiting for a breakdown to see where I can negotiate MSRP = $57,300 warranty started: 08/20/2013 FL (gotta pay for shipping to NYC) - 2013 35i, Space Gray on Black, 34,715 miles CPO | $44,977 listed price Drive Assist pkg, DHP, M-Sport, Premium, Prem Sound, Technology, M-Sport, 40/20/40 split folding, heated front seats. MSRP = $59,245 warranty started: 8/2013 but its CPO until 8/2018 or 100k miles West Virginia so shipping is less than both others. So far negotiated from listing price down to 42,990 trying for more any tips?

These kinds of choices are so personal, it is difficult to provide straightforward pros or cons when asked, but then again, having to decide between three great X3s is a nice dilemma to face. If you're set on purchasing one quickly and these are the three you have chosen, it might be helpful to know what is most important to you? If price is, and you can arrive at an 'out the door' amount for each, that will help in comparing the bottom line, and the 28s would be great. The packages are fairly similar, but the color combinations are varied. Ignoring the colors, I have to say I'm partial to the 35s. I don't have much experience with the 28s, having just done a test drive back in 2011 when trying to decide between the two, so I'm not one to comment on their performance in real world settings.
When we travel highways, we're usually loaded down pretty well, so when I merge from a tight on-ramp or pass in heavy traffic with rapidly-approaching flow or while travelling uphill, I want to make sure I have the power needed to get it done quickly. Others with 28s can share their experiences in those situations, and I suspect the differences are probably negligible, but that was the driving force for us when choosing between the models, rightly or wrongly. Not much help, but good luck with your purchase! |

I personally wouldn't purchased a pre-owned car sight-unseen.
- Is there an odor? - Are there fine scratches or marks that cannot be detected in photos? - Does it have rattles when driven? - How does feel? These questions are virtually impossible to answer unless you're sitting in the vehicle. My choice is the 28i w/DHP one hour away from you that is basically brand new, albeit the oldest of this bunch. Try to negotiate down and extend the warranty with the money you save from the others + not having to have it shipped. I didn't think I wanted DHP until this board resoundingly said "GET IT!" After having my 2015 for 4.5 weeks, I am SO HAPPY I listened. Another reason to go get that 2013! Good luck!

I really struggled with going for the 35i or 28i, it wasn't a matter of price as the way I optioned it was only $2,800 difference. I drove both and it really came down to efficiency for me. I primarily drive in the city so the extra two miles per gallon were better for me opposed to the add'l power that would hardly ever be used. I find the auto start-stop to be less disruptive in the 28i than the 35i as well. I still haven't exceeded 4,500 RPMs, but when in sport mode I can tell this engine just wants to GOOOOO. It's amazing how the DHP tightens the steering/suspension and the ride transforms from soft and luxurious to downright aggressive. I cannot wait until I surpass 1,200 miles and can point this thing up Vail pass in sport mode. I'm quite positive this "4 banger" will blow my mind in what it's got!

I would recommend going with something local. Don't have to worry about shipping, and you can test drive it.
New, you can test drive similar model if available at dealership. Which kind of led me to buy my new vehicle at a larger dealership that had the model (diesel) available to test drive. |

In my area the closest X3 with most options except DHP are running for 48-50k and there's a 2014 35i / Space Gray / Chestnut interior / every option as well but for 51,888 with 3k miles. I just found much closer to me but still far to drive out to - 2013 35i, Space Gray on Black, 34,715 miles CPO | $44,977 listed price Drive Assist pkg, DHP, M-Sport, Premium, Prem Sound, Technology, M-Sport, 40/20/40 split folding, heated front seats. MSRP = $59,245 warranty started: 8/2013 but its CPO until 8/2018 or 100k miles West Virginia so shipping is less than both others. is CPO worth it?
