Did I read this right... X5M and X6M are very popular with young female's in Asia?
Good god just from this comment we can see the M brand purely stands for marketing. Those cars are obviously sold as pure status symbols without any of it's potential utilized anymore.
I'm Taiwanese myself and I know how Asian women drive... (besides the scarily, crapily and wreckless part) they drive slow! In Asia there isn't even anywhere to drive fast.
= These cars are just pure "hey look at me i'm rich I can afford a M car" They could not care if the car had a M steering wheel for better grip feel, or a race motor to beat on, or brakes that don't fade... technically BMW could badge a X5 base model with a M badge (same motor wheels brakes suspension etc) and they car will sell like hotcakes in Asia -_-
Anyhow I know obviously most ppl buy BMW's as status symbols and what no and never use their potential but just found the M SAV's to be purchased by women really interesting.
Business is business at the end of the day i guess...

"This engine will also find it's way into the next generation M3 family albeit with higher power output."
After the M5 engine output was announced, I guess when BMW says "higher" that means 5 hp!

flightz71 wroteBMW really has no choice. They must stay ahead of the competition and with their new extensible platform they have huge capability to develop these models and build them quickly. Nothing wrong with ///M SUVs as long as they are special!Business is business at the end of the day i guess...

not to be a dick but
"BMW M always encourages debate. And there is no other form of debate than BMW M's inclusion of a BMW X5M and BMW X6M. M SAV's? . The idea that the scared M division could bring out something as blasthemous as a High Performance SAV was unthinkable , even after the dust has settled - The debate continues. "
is that english?
do you mean "sacred" and "blasphemous" ... ?
i stopped reading after that --- made my head hurt.

X3M and X1M? The sound of that makes some people cringe, but then again way back, long ago, in a time where BMW didn't make SAV's, the thought of any non-car BMW was blasphemy. You cant make everyone happy, but you should always try to make your shareholders satisfied. If selling these vehicles will generate more profits, then this will very well make some people happy to the point they are deaf to those complaining. I suppose more the merrier, atleast everyone can find a BMW they like??

red-sauerkraut wroteNo.Easy really... Don't buy one!
Is it me or is M just soft-balling their new engines in via the "X" platform? These are all sort of odd-ball M cars so we let it slide and then all of a sudden!!!! their engine is in the core M cars.
I don't like that.

cuban335i wroteI respectfully disagree. The new jeep interior is light years ahead of the old one, esecially the upscale models. Not quite BMW quality but well done considering it's 30k less.I have a feeling the X3M will be directly compared to the next Jeep SRT-8... and this is how its going to go down:
The X3M will have less grunt, but be much more refined, luxurious, and handle better.
The Jeep SRT-8 will have more power, but crappy interior and will not be a great handler.
In the end: X3M will win every comparison
No need for magazines comparisons anymore lol

I like it! If BMW can build kick ass cars, why not offer it in any flavor anyone desires?

flightz71 wroteThis is funny because at the beginning of his post he clarified that BMW is going to use these "volume sellers" as a means to an end. In order to get cars like an M3 CSL, M3 CRT, 1M / M2, and other "special" editions that won't really produce any profit for the M division, BMW needs to have these cars that go against the philosophy but make a lot of money. Everyone knows the X5M and X6M are not track cars but in a sense souped up SUVs. I'd rather the M division be profitable AND able to kick out competition killer cars with innovative concepts than to not have M SAVs. As sad as it sounds...Did I read this right... If you people ran BMW M the division would go broke within 1 year... You guys have no idea what it takes to run a business.

If M needs to build M SAVs so they can fund low volume/profit cars like the 1M I'm all for it.

SCOTT26 wroteSince when is anything with 4 doors "technically" a coupe? Technically it's a 4-door truck, however you'd like to market it.Given that X6 (technically) is a Coupe, albeit a Sport Activity Coupe. The car could hypothetically be called CSL. You could say for the BMW X6M - The best is about to come.
At any rate, you know I respect the fact that you dish out details about your product line well in advance of any magazines, spy shots, or press releases, but consider me a detractor. Yes, the M division will undoubtedly move considerably more units by expanding its product line like this. But in doing so, they will have lost the spirit that defined them over the last two decades.
