Are you actually using the BofA service or just trying to get people to match that price for you individually?
I think one of the keys of the buying services is that they offer dealerships qualified buyers and quick sales. This process generally by-passes the sales floor. I think you're unlikely to match those prices by going to dealerships and working with a salesperson. That adds another intermediary who needs to earn a living. They're unlikely to be able to earn anything from the sale by matching the buying service price.

Well, that's a pretty clear indicator that including the salesperson doesn't mean necessarily a higher price! I stand corrected.

Where you are in the country and how many dealers in your area affects whether the dealerships near you will negotiate or not. Seattle has enough affluent residents that the BMW dealers here don't seem to be motivated to negotiate much, IME.

Well, went to three dealerships in the NW looking for good pricing. Got price as walk in, through Bank of America and Costco.
Was told by one sales rep (walk in) that BofA discount was only for in stock cars. Was given one price at full MSRP as a walk in at second dealership. Followed up with same dealership through Costco system and same sales rep knocked ~$2500 off. Third dealership: finally found a no BS sales rep. Went through BofA system to find him. $2000 over invoice now. If upon delivery (April) he can get me a better deal he will. Otherwise, no worse than $2000 over invoice. Moral of the story, keep hunting and you'll find a deal. Don't believe sales reps when they say no deals. Last edited by pwdrskr; 02-06-2011 at 09:37 AM.. |

We have bought a couple of cars through Zag. Very simple, just use Zag, which guarantees the price. Sometimes you can beat zag by going to the internet sales mgr (so they don't have to pay the zag fee). Finally, remember the X3 is unique since it is meant to be order only with little dealer stock. The in stock notion is not true. We have always ordered our cars with Zag. This means you can buy the car from any dealer in the country by phone and just go to SC to pick it up. Serice it anywhere. The dealer still makes a couple of thousand (invoice is not what they pay) for a couple of phone calls and punching the order into the computer. They never see or touch the car. They don't even need a showroom. Of course, you need to be able to write a check for $50K

I'm in Portland and got $500 over invoice using Amex/Zag pricing on a custom order. You have to go through an approved dealership in their network. Most dealerships won't match that price on a new model.
I'm happy with my price, but the dealership I'm going through has been less than great. I guess you get what you pay for. |

I bought mine using the USAA buying service (someone says that's zag, but I don't know anything about that). Very happy with the price. Fairfax BMW at least proclaimed to be happy with the business, noting that USAA purchases are very smooth and the customers are always qualified. Service has been very good. Thorough test drive, great service during pick-up. Sat in the car with me and ran through pretty much all the functions, made sure I was able to pair my phone, etc. Most of it I knew from previous cars and scouring the manual during the waiting time, but it was very good service. No hint of being a "discount customer", just a BMW customer.
I recommend Fairfax based on this positive experience.

I got $500 over invoice. Called a dealer, told him what I wanted and would come in to do the paperwork. He called me back in 5 minutes and said ok. simple as that. Easiest purchase I ever made.
