New UK website configurator
I've just noticed that there is a new configurator on the UK website. It's, er, a little bit better than the last one. Content is still pretty useless in places, e.g. 6NF: comes as standard with any bluetooth option - no it doesn't, see page 38 for details. Page 38?!?! I'm online here!! 6NR, not even a description: brilliant
You can see what's in packages a little clearer than before and you can now order options by name and search by option code. In usual BMW UK "don't bother testing anything before putting it live" style, there are a few bugs. E.g. click enlarge next to the picture: Quote:

Also just noticed you can now add anthracite headlining and high gloss shadowline

The version of the configurator you refer to has been around for a little while I think.
Also the issue you mention with the "enlarge" function also manifests with print also. I contacted BMW about this a week or so ago and they told me that BMW in Germany were aware and were working on it. Since then it has worked fully on occasion and a couple of times partially - the first large picture fails to show. It's currently not working - for me at least. Interestingly, I currently see two versions of the configurator depending on which device I use. On my iPad using Safari, I get the version I think you saw, that is the one with the "enlarge" button. On my PC using Explorer I see a different version that doesn't have the "enlarge" option. I suppose that this may have root in whether Flash or some other prerequisite is available or not. |

This is a problem we identified with the configurator yesterday on the BMW X3 and our team In Germany are working to fix this right away. |

It's all hosted out of Germany actually. I think that's why the performance suffers sporadically: longer round trips and sometimes affected by French Air Traffic Control on strike again
First time I've seen this configurator and I was using a newly rebuilt XP box with IE7. Perhaps it redirects based on your browser. Chrome was "old style" last week, I'm sure

Just checked configurator versions on some of my other PCs and all except for the iPad are still showing the 'old' version of the configurator (options are up to date though). Results are as follows:
iPad with Safari: 'new' Win7 IE8 - 'old' Vista IE8 - 'old' XP IE8 - 'old' Perhaps there is also a difference between PC and mobile versions. I recall that when I first tried running the configurator on my iPad it wouldn't work at all. This would be back in February. Also the configurator will not run correctly at work on IE6. |

Hmmm, I don't have access to this XP box any more but thinking about it, I may have picked up the latest IE as part of Windows Update so perhaps they've cleverly developed a new website that is only supported by one version of one browser. Ingenious. I can see it going the same way as Betamax!
