Unusual but... 2011 Cayenne vs 2011 X3
Weird comparison but I want to either get a small compact SUV at a good price point or go all in with a Cayenne (yeah if Porsche had a smaller SUV I'd compare it against that)
These are the factors that I'm weighing: x3 28i -Smaller size so easier handle (183 vs 191, and 4112lbs vs 4475lbs) -faster 0-60 speed -bigger NAV screen (9 vs 7) -Has HUD Display option -Better fuel milage -~47Gs base don my option list Cayenne - Higher premium brand perception, less common on road - Wider array of options (e.g. Double insulated glass) - Has lane change warning option -~60gs based on my option list Last edited by silverforumsurf; 04-07-2011 at 03:01 PM.. |

I briefly considered a Cayenne, but I couldn't get past its looks and size. It looks engorged. |

Here in Southern California I see tons of Cayennes - the new one just came out and I see them everywhere compared to the F25 which came out months ago. They are perceived as the "it" luxury SUV, though I don't think they're all that attractive. The Cayenne is a bit bulbous (someone said "engorged"?) I may be out on a limb here, but I really like the Volvo XC60. If the Volvo had the performance and amenities of the X3, I'd go for it.

The dials on the dash remind of me of a Peugeot 106 I once had the misfortune to be in

On the other hand, I would not say no to one of these (if someone else was paying for it)

well, which do you like driving? i mean, it seems like price isn't an issue so just go for the one that appeals to you most. i personally love BMWs. there is something very timeless about them and they're so much fun to drive. i'll pick a BMW every time, but that's just me.

my wife wants a Cayanne, but I told her all we can afford is an optioned out base model, size is more similar to the X3 than X5 (Cayanne has little cargo room) and the engine in the X3 is much better plus its $10K cheaper with the same options. Much better MPG in the X3 too, problem solved we are getting the X3 and putting the $10K towards our next house...

You can't compare an X3 and a Cayenne. I have a Cayenne S right now, and I test drove the X3 35i a couple of times before deciding to purchase it. From braking, handling, the cayenne is much more responsive. The cayenne has insane brakes, and it basically drives like a sports car even when turning. But, it was a budget issue for me, so that's why I got the X3 on order, very similiar speeds 0-60 as the new cayenne s, but over $15k cheaper (in canada).

Sorry if I insult anyone, but if made of money, I still wouldn't buy a Cayenne!
I don't doubt they're arguably the best SUV to drive, they may have great options/features, great interiors. But to me, the bulbous exterior, is butt ugly, I remember years back, when I saw one, and I haven't heard of them - I didn't know it was a porche - I'd have guessed some weird lower market manufacturer! Ok, so it's a porsche, I like 911's and other porches - I'd buy one of those and a X5/X6 or Land Rover, never a Cayenne. If someone gave me one, I'd sell it! Rant over.
