All Season 21 Inch Tire Option

Why not just mount X3M tire size?
255/40/21 and 265/40/21. You dont need 295s in the rear. The X3M size is pretty close to square.

If I am not mistaken, all 21" OE M40i rims are 8.5" and 9.5" wide.

The height of the 265/ and 295/ tiress might be ok, and may even fit under the car without rubbing, but you have to consider the width of the tire on the rim.

A 255/40/21 needs a 8.5-10" rim. an 8.5" rim will work but at the min width

A 265/40/21 needs a 9-10.5", is 1/2 inch too wide for an 8.5 rim.

A 295/35/21 needs a 10-11.5" rim. it is 1/2 inch too wide for a 9.5" rim.

I think that the two widest formulas that one should go on the 8.5 and 9.5 rims:
255/40/21 and 295/35/21
255/40/21 and 265/40/21

...but should only be used with the acknowledgement to oneself that one is stretching the tire just a bit.

BTW, I believe that the X3M's that have 255 front, 265 rear have different sized rims and offsets than those on the M40i

The X3M tire sizes, while at the lower limit for rim width do not exceed the minimum tho so if you're uneasy with 295 in the rear, the 265 will be just fine.

I wonder why BMW even staggered the wheels by only .5 inch. Moreover, why they staggered the size of the tires from 255 to 265. Seems like they would have erred to 265 and 265, a completely square setup which avails rotation. these tires wear out so fast, it would give some longevity to the tires.

For the square set up they stick with the front tire with, 255 and 255, probably something to do with clearance especially in the winter.

I just ordered Michelin PS4 AS's in the following sizes from Tire Rack:

255/40R21
295/35R21

Tires are scheduled to be installed by their mobile installer one week from today. They did call me to raise the concern about rear tire fitment, so hopefully the reports from others on this forum about 295s fitting are correct. I will report back on my experience.

Are you running 21" winter tires, and need some new summer tires for the upcoming months? If you are getting ready to drop $1900+ for some summer RFT's, here is a good deal:

My '22 M40i with 21" wheels was just delivered. Luckily, mounted with Pirelli P Zero (not Alenza's). I have driven them 50 miles, and frankly, they are way better, smoother and quieter than I expected. But, I need all season tires, so I am dismounting these while they are still new, and they are for sale. $1000, firm, you pay shipping (guess about $50 unboxed). At Tire Rack, they are $1904/set. If you want to stay with summer run flats, these are the best, they are new, and they are cheap. Located in Santa Fe, NM.

Just had these new tires installed by Tire Rack mobile installer. I asked him if there were any issues mounting the larger tires on the 718M wheels, and he said no.

Took the new PS4 AS tires out for a test drive this afternoon. Initial impressions: WAY quieter and smoother ride versus the Alenza RFTs. I do seem to notice the slower turn in that others have mentioned, but maybe it is just the power of suggestion? The handling does seem to feel a little more "truck-like" after the change. Not terrible, but it does seem noticeable.

You still happy with them? I’m not crazy hearing about slower turn in reports, and your “truck-like” report.

I ordered my ‘23 M40i with 718M, and seriously considering installing 255/40/21; 295/35/21 all seasons at delivery. Wonder what I could get for my 21” RFT
