CARB approved charge pipe for n55?
Is there a CARB approved charge pipe for the X3 with the n55 engine? COBB has one that doesn’t fit the X3.

doubtful. the certification is too expensive for a small volume product like that. nobody checks them during inspections because it's not easy to get at nor see and most people wouldn't know the difference anyway.

Thanks. Living in California the smog inspection is mostly a thorough visual inspection (they read readiness via OBDII) and anything not stock without a CARB certification is instant failure.
Since the charge pipe is a common failure I’m hoping to find a certified replacement as a preventative measure. COBB is the only CARB certified one I’ve found so far and it doesn’t fit the X3. |

I live in Socal and my x3 was smogged this year and they didn't say anything about my FTP charge pipe. As far as I know, it's not carb approved.

probably a bigger fine to falsify a CARB sticker than to fail smog inspection...

I was sort of joking, it’s just annoying that an OEM part with known issues is not legally replaceable with a stronger aftermarket part. I pealed off the Ftp stickers, just a black pipe now. Just waiting to get it installed after having unscheduled back surgery last week. Currently I can’t even drive. Last edited by spelk3; 07-27-2021 at 12:53 AM.. |
